Messed up my pulled pork

yohohoCrimbo · 01/01/2025 11:47

I don't switch the bloody slow cooker on at 9 and it's been sat on my counter in the crockpot!

Guests coming at 5. How can I speed up a pulled pork recipe???!!!

Put it on high. Or bung it in the oven on a low heat for the afternoon.

Vignoble · 01/01/2025 11:49

Hmm. Maybe revert to a different pork recipe?

Or, what I have done before is blast a joint up on high initially in the oven for 30 minutes, then transfer to slow cooker. Plus, could you eke out the evening with nibbles and games, to delay the meal a couple of hours?

Journeyintomelody · 01/01/2025 11:52

Get it on now. You might be ok with 5 hours depending on size.

Cut it into half if it’s big . Oven for 30 min at 200 then 140

polpolpolpol · 01/01/2025 11:54

It's been nearly 3 hours out of the fridge. I would be cautious about using it at all. It's meant to be 2 hours unrefrigerated for meat I think.

JC03745 · 01/01/2025 11:56

Do you have a pressure cooker? I used that. If not, I agree with cutting in half and putting it on high in the slow cooker.

Longma · 01/01/2025 11:59

Do it in the oven.

You have 5 hours (more if not serving food straight away at 5) which will be plenty of time.

yohohoCrimbo · 01/01/2025 11:59

Thanks everyone.

Boiler is on blink so my kitchen is currently colder than the fridge - I'm happy about it being chilled.

I'll shove it in oven then get it in the slow-cooker. Nibbles until it's done.

Thank you.

How does that square with meat that is hung, outside a refrigerator, for a few days, especially game?

Interesting question but I am not an expert, merely an observer of food safety standards.

Interesting question all the same.

That is bollocks!

I mean it's not, but ok.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 01/01/2025 12:07

Plenty of time to do it in the oven - mine normally takes 4-5hours

@polpolpolpol yes it is. How do you think meat is aged?

What sweet breads?

mitogoshigg · 01/01/2025 12:11

Oven, 170 degrees, 3 hours, done! (Unless it's stupidly huge) see the pack for weight, 50 mins per kg plus 20 mins at 180 if you really are up against it

Like I said already, I'm not an expert. I just read the food safety information. If you feel the need to challenge it, take it up with the agencies who provide the information?

Sweetbreads are the thymus and pancreas, nothing to do with the bollocks 🤣

polpolpolpol is actually correct from a food hygiene standpoint. Pork should not be left out without going into the fridge, freezer or oven for more than two hours. You can Google it if you like. I'm guessing she, like me, has the food hygiene certificates and possibly a commercial rating (mine was 5*, the mention of acrylamides stopped the assessor in her tracks, first time she'd actually had it mentioned but it was relevant to my goods.)

Personally, at home, I'd be more than happy to cook (thoroughly) and eat it having been left out for three hours. Commercially I'd have to bin it.

Under strict conditions. Not just left out of the fridge.

Are bollocks sweet meats then? I know they are something - never had one myself.

helpmyback · 01/01/2025 12:34

Shove it in high for 1- 2 hours then turn down it will be fine and then delay by 45 mins!

I did that once in my birthday and was at work all day and came home to a congealed mess of raw chicken and curry

It will be fine for three hour if it was out the fridge cold

Your kitchen is 3 degrees C? You have no heating and you have guests coming?
