We knew it was coming. Just hope he had a peaceful Christmas and passing.

I assume you're listening to Radio 2. Bob Harris is leading a lovely, musical tribute.

Everybody in our house, young and old, loved Johnnie Walker. He was a giant of music broadcasting.

Evenstar · 31/12/2024 16:36

Just turned over to Radio 2, thank you. DH and I have listened to him on Sounds of the Seventies for many years ☹️

RaininSummer · 31/12/2024 16:39

Aw. Was thinking about him this morning as always listen to the sounds of the seventies podcast. Getting used to Bob Harris RIP Johnny.

Snowmanscarf · 31/12/2024 16:39

i think Bob Harris was the first announcement of his passing. A nice tribute if so. Bob Harris, not surprisingly, sounded really emotional earlier.

My DDad died of pulmonary fibrosis, it is a cruel disease

Cocolapew · 31/12/2024 16:42

RIP Jonnie

Slingsanderrors · 31/12/2024 16:50

RIP Johnnie, I loved you from the pirate days right through to Sounds of the 70’s.

Sad news. A great dj and always seemed a lovely man. His voice has been there throughout my life. He's no longer suffering.

Mumofacertainage · 31/12/2024 16:54

I was a teenager and he was the big star DJ doing a gig in a Bournemouth club.
He asked me to dance, all eyes were on us and he was a perfect gentleman. I am now a retired grandma and Johnnie now gone RIP. But this has always been a treasured memory and brings a smile to my face. I was absolutely star struck, as he was by far the coolest DJ at the time. I have always followed his career and listened to the wonderful voice. What a guy

So sad to hear this. I loved Sounds of the 70s. I hope Tiggy and his family are OK.

Toquerville · 31/12/2024 17:28

Johnny has always been there for every important (and not so important) event in my life. Considering we never met I probably knew him better then anybody I had. The music world will never be the same and he will be highly missed.
I wish his family and friends the very best and know that he will be welcomed with open arms by all those who have gone before.
I'm really gonna miss you.

YarkYark · 31/12/2024 17:34

Some people seem to have been with you through thick and thin. We used to listen to Johnnie doing the chart rundown back in the 70s, and we were still listening on Sundays this year. A great broadcaster who actually cared about the music, the performers and the listeners. There are very few left with his class. RIP Johnnie Walker

MounjaroOnMyMind · 31/12/2024 17:37

I really loved him, particularly on Drivetime. It sounds as though he's had a really tough time of it. RIP, Johnnie ❤

BurntBroccoli · 31/12/2024 22:42

Yes really sad. I loved his Sunday afternoon Sounds of the 70s. My happy era.

TigerDroveAgain · 31/12/2024 22:44

FlowersFlowersFlowers coming but so so sad, irreplaceable

MotherTuckingGenius · 31/12/2024 22:46
