Anyone else not bothering with NY celebrations?

I just can’t be arsed frankly!

We’ve had a really great Christmas and enough celebrating with family and friends and enough rich food! I just want to crack on getting the house straight and starting NY projects and for that reason I want an early night.

So dh and I will be retiring early and treating it as an ordinary evening. We usually just end up watching Jools Holland anyway! I’d rather just skip half heartedly doing something and make the most of tomorrow.

Anyone else?

We never do anything much - even in my party years I never liked NYE much, and now I'm in my 40s with a child I have absolutely no desire to go out. I find it weirdly depressing.

I'll stay up and watch the fireworks, but no special food or drink - it's just a normal day.

Mumistiredzzzz · 31/12/2024 18:50

Not doing anything. Haven't even had any tea as I'm not hungry, normally we have a takeaway. Husband putting daughter to bed and I've just put the washing machine on. Living the high life haha

BurntBroccoli · 31/12/2024 22:35

Forced to stay up till midnight due to extra loud fireworks that my neighbour always has.
My poor cat hates them so need to try and comfort him.

I hate New Year's Eve. Wish everyone didn't have fireworks in their gardens like pre 2000.

I've also shared a simular post, if I'm honest I can't get excited about new year and I am a bit peopled out. The thought of a night out, feeling rough tomorrow and then back to work Thursday just doesn't sound fun.

Instead I've stayed home, watched a film. Nice cup of tea and will attempt to sleep (lots of fireworks which do look v pretty)

Have a lovely new year everyone, do what makes you happy... always

PussInBin20 · 31/12/2024 22:49

Well I was due to celebrate. Am at in-laws for family party but then my DD started throwing up a few hours ago and so I am now sitting by her bed, offering sympathy and disposing of sick bucket! Oh well, never mind.

Giggorata · 31/12/2024 22:52

We do when we're in Scotland but in England we usually have a glass or three of fizz at midnight. We don't bother with Jools these days, as we don't enjoy 75% of the music.
Thankfully, our gundogs aren't upset by fireworks, as someone in the village always lets them off at midnight, and we can watch them from the study window.

Tomorrow, we're going for drinks and nibbles with friends. It will all be very staid.

AmersLee · 31/12/2024 22:54

We usually do, with drinks in a local wine bar, cathedral service, candlelight procession, live music in the market squarecande fireworks at midnight. Fantastic family atmosphere as we all walk home together afterwards.

Great community feel. My DC’s grew up with this every year and always return for it. Quite a special celebration.

Just not this year as cancelled due to the weather.

Instead, log burner on, hot bath, cocktails and food at home. Tomorrow we are taking a picnic breakfast to the beach ( even if we have to eat it in the car) 😆

SpringIscomingalso · 31/12/2024 23:00

Me and my little family. Food, puddings ( we have nice food and pudding every night anyway), everyone on their electronics. I am obviously on mnet

SpringIscomingalso · 31/12/2024 23:03

I was meant to be watching the Christmas candle but it has to be on youtube and do not want adverts bearing right now. So any topic, with so many people on here, apparently I am not the only one having online community right now

Isthisreasonable · 31/12/2024 23:04

My least favourite night of the year. Too many years of smug marrieds either commiserations about my lack of a partner or grilling partners about when they were going to propose. Hideous.

CheeryPenisBeaker · 31/12/2024 23:06

Me. I’ve always hated the enforced jollity of Hogmanay (I’m in Scotland). This year I’ve got the cold so happy to have the excuse of going to bed before the bells.

Rockschooldropout · 31/12/2024 23:08

I’m currently having chemo so aside from avoiding people due to infection risk .. my family and grown up children live three hours away so couidnt even pop to see them .. therefore feeling sorry for myself and DH and I are going to bed soon .. 2024 has been awful for us tbh so I’d rather just go sleep and wake up in a new year

Notthisagainyouidiot · 31/12/2024 23:26

Not a fan of NYE celebrations and never have been. Even as a teen/early 20's I was happier working behind the bar than partying.
I think I've enjoyed 2 in my life. One in a small village pub where I knew everyone and ended up sleeping under the landlady's ironing board and the millennium when we had a family party.
And I'm 53 so not the best enjoyment percentage!

Onthefence87 · 31/12/2024 23:33

Not done much this year....last year went for a takeaway round some friends' but this year just staying at home as we haven't made plans with anyone, but lucky we didn't as 3yo is only just recovering from a nasty virus, so wouldn't have been able to go anyway. That also means we probably won't do much tomorrow either (have sometimes gone for a meal out/winter walk with my mum) We did have a dominoes and ben & jerry's tonight though! Yummyyy

Amazingday · 31/12/2024 23:38

I love New Year’s Eve. Christmas is family and New Year’s Eve is friends. I am Scottish in England, and find it’s not the save vibe here. I had planned to go to the pub for drinks avc celebrate with DP and friends. But we both have the lurgy and feel crap. Tv, food and glass of wine.

only 22 mins till I get to bed.

InSpainTheRain · 31/12/2024 23:49

We went big on Christmas but nothing for NYE. One DC is working, the other already in bed. DH is on his laptop booking a holiday next to me :)

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 01/01/2025 00:48

It was like a war zone here at 12 and the fireworks are still going.

Whatever3787 · 01/01/2025 01:13

Nope not this year got sinusitis and my ears are in pain and not slept properly in days because I can’t breathe through my nose! Been ill for 4 weeks now never ending.
