Salary / first pay question

I started a new job this month . I started the 1st Dec . I’m salaried - so will get the same amount every month . I was supposed to start 2 weeks before and at that point I questioned pay and was told by my line manager ( not payroll ) that as I started half way through , I would be paid part of a month . When my start date changed to the 1st I assumed I would be paid a whole month ( as pay day is last working day of the month ) . I did then find out that there was a cut off point in the month - 15th . However , not all employees are salaried - some do over time , don’t work the same each week etc .

I’ve just been paid and I’ve been paying paid what I expect to be paid every month. So I’ve been paid for the whole month .

is this normal in a salaried role ? Or have they made a mistake ?

What does your pay slip say?

You've worked a month and been paid a.month. Seems right. The cut off would just be for getting you on the system, if you're on a regular salary the deadline doesn't mean they only pay for for the days worked before the cut off.

What does your pay slip say?

It says my salary and then just shows the monthly amount before deductions , then my net pay .

Thank you . It was a nice bonus as I was expecting about £600 less ! I had worked it out based on what I would be paid per day at first , then on my early pay app I saw that it kept going higher each day and realised it was calculating each day inc weekends and I thought maybe that’s how salaried works … expected it to just still only pay me the 12 days but my husband did say cut off will be for those who do overtime etc and that as I’m salaried it’s the same amount each month and just maybe if I left before a full year I might get less in that month .

Agree the cut off is just for payroll - so if you did any overtime etc after the 15th it would probably roll over, but as it's your standard contracted hours they've assumed you'll work them.

I’ve had this, essentially the difference is when you leave as they will then work out start date/ end date and reduce final pay accordingly. I started on the 22nd and still got a months pay on the 31st but when I leave they will reduce final pay by those three weeks.

The cut off is for overtime and expenses usually. Any overtime after the 15th will be added to the following month
