Do you wash your hands after…

Assuming you’ve recently had a shower, haven’t had sex, aren’t menstruating, aren’t just out of the gym, and generally are clean: is there a difference (in terms of cleanliness) between scratching your head, your underarm, or your pubic hair (just the top bit, not down below!)

My inclination is to say I would want to wash my hands after touching my bikini region and not my head, but if all of the above is true (recently showered, etc) is it really that different than scratching your underarm or your head?

God heavens - what a thing to worry about! You can't wash your hands after they touch your body every time.

Candycane778 · 30/12/2024 21:45

Definitely would wash hands

MsPug · 30/12/2024 21:46

I'd be washing my hands all day

Bluelagoondrmr · 30/12/2024 21:46

How topical !

ScratchThatItchy · 30/12/2024 21:53

I mean really. I no longer wax but have a neatly trimmed bikini area. If I’m watching Telly and have a small itch, I’ll scratch it. If I’m eating crisps and sharing with DH, I wouldn’t think twice if I stuck my hand in the bag after scratching my head. But my underarm? Those are shaved but…somehow a bit more off putting? And my pubic hair? Also seems inappropriate?

Can't say I've ever washed my hands after touching my armpits or scratching my head no.

ScratchThatItchy · 30/12/2024 22:05

But would you wash them after scratching your nether regions?

How do you manage when you're in bed, OP? If your backside or groin itches and you scratch it, do you have to get up and wash?

JackJarvisEsq · 30/12/2024 22:13

The appropriate response here is clearly a wire brush and dettol

Whatabouthow · 30/12/2024 22:22

I think if an area is at risk of getting a bit musky, it's reasonable to wash hands before dipping into the shared bowl.

Pamosonic · 30/12/2024 22:28

I don't share a bag of crisps 😁 the thought of it makes me think of those bowls of peanuts you sometimes see in pubs. You just know some dirty bugger who don't clean their hands after the toilet will put their hand into the peanuts bowl.

Wonderi · 30/12/2024 22:40

How often are you scratching?

I’m not sure I ever scratch down there, nor do I typically scratch my underarms or anywhere else on my body.

I’ve just realised that I’m not a very itchy person.

Do you have eczema or anything that makes you particularly itchy?

If my DH was scratching himself and then put his hands in my crisps I would probably be a bit miffed but then I’d be a bit miffed if he was constantly scratching anyway.

Jolietta · 30/12/2024 22:41

Why are you scratching your nether regions? Crabs?

Okayornot · 31/12/2024 09:44

No, I wouldn't wash my hands, that's honestly silly. Don't you and your DH live together? He's already encountered all your germs and you his. A vaguely pubey crisp is hardly making a difference.

Plus- your phone likely has more bacteria than a loo seat (and certainly more than the edge of your recently showered pubes). Are you washing your hands every time you touch your phone?

ZippyCat · 31/12/2024 09:47

Yes I would wash my hands but can't say I even make a habit of scratching my pubic area anyway 😵‍💫
