Including two hotel managers.
Two hotel staff members that gave him drugs
And one of his friends for abandoning him.

Any thoughts on this?

In my opinion, It seems strange to charge the friend. And its harsh to charge the hotel managers. They possibly weren't even aware of his state of being. Didn't a receptionist call an ambulance

The people who supplied him drugs should be charged though

It explains why they’ve each been charged on the BBC news site , I think aside from the 2 that sold him the drugs the other 3 are just scapegoats - ridiculous.

Reading more of the article, i can see why the receptionist was potentially charged.

They said that they are charging the receptionist for telling three staff members to carry liam back to his room and leave him there alone qhen he was in such a bad condition. Video stills show liam being carried up to his room. They are saying that liam should have been kept in a safe place until medical help came.

The friend being charged is the most ludicrous one. Seeing as from reading reports, it seems that the friend left liam before liam was even in a bad state.

Ridiculous scapegoating over a grown man who made poor decisions and choices. It’s extremely sad, but charging the friend is really grabbing at straws here.

Edited to say I’m pretty sure Liam would not have wanted this for his friend

In which country did he die? In Spain and France, for example, it’s a crime if you don’t assist a person in need / danger e.g. you see someone hurt and don’t help. There are cases where people have seen or heard neighbours hurting themselves who have been charged with non-assistance of a person in need (I don’t know how these ended up, if charges were dropped in the end.)

Argentina has a "Duty To Rescue" law which is a variant on the "Good Samaritan" laws that exist in Spain/France/Germany.

This. Anyone who decides to take drugs is taking a risk . It’s like they are trying desperately to find people to blame.

Sheknowsaboutme · 30/12/2024 18:08

Its always someone else’s fault. Never the drug taker.

The ones who supplied drugs should be charged for obvious reasons but, although the friend seems a bit of a shady character, I really don’t think charging him with negligent homicide and effectively pinning the blame on him is right.

Liam was a grown 31 year old man and the friend left the hotel an hour before his death. The footage released shows him talking to people in reception and laying on the sofa on his laptop. Things only seem to have gone massively downhill in the minutes before his death when friend already left. How was the friend supposed to know he was going to fall/leap from the balcony? Even if he stayed with him there’s a strong likelihood he couldn’t have stopped that from happening anyway?
