This is why I am not successful

Set myself a goal of getting fitter, particularly around improving my running.

Set myself a training plan and target. In the diary for today is a long run. Got dressed in running gear. Went outside. And Oh My God its freezing out! LIke properly, properly cold! That awful drizzly rain that soaks right through to your bones.

So instead I drove in my car to the supermarket, got some crisps to eat driving home and a pizza for lunch, which I am about to eat, followed by some left over sponge pud.

This. This mindset is why I am not one of life's great success stories 😁

Can anyone relate?

Brrrrr. I started couch to 5k in September and immediately gave up due to the rain but I’m back on track having got a treadmill.

Running in bad weather is (ime) all about getting the clothing right, being too cold can feel very scary. I learnt through trial and error to perfect my clothing strategy when it comes to running- but all that running takes its toll and in hindsight I wish I had done less of it🤦🏻‍♀️

I actually prefer exercising outside. It was just so cooooollllllddddd today. The fact that I had left it late to go and was probably needing to eat probably didn't help with the whole cold thing.

I don't think you can live in the UK and like say you like exercising outside if you don't like the cold/rain, since it's cold/raining at least 340 days of the year 😁

I prefer it cold for exercising personally, can't stand it too hot.

My cousin is a runner, she gets up at 5am every day and goes running regardless. Also does coldwater swimming most months of the year. Too much for me personally.

How are you counting/measuring your success/what are your goals?

I get very cold, too, so understand where you're coming from. I dress a lot warmer than other runners: merino base layer, winter tights (not shorts or thin leggings), gloves (not too thick or your hands get too hot), neck warmer etc. And if it's raining, a jacket on top which isn't that common, either. Maybe you just need better equipment that suits your metabolism/temperature? Or, as others suggest, take up an indoor sport instead?

Edited

I dress warmer than other runners. In my first race with my club it was commented that I was the only racer wearing a bobble hat 😁

I can't afford proper running gear though, other than my trainers, so make do with what I can find in charity shops.

I prefer it cold to hot as well. I normally like running in winter but it just felt sooo cold today.

Did get out in the end though, did my run ( well part run and part walk, I am a lot less fit than I was this time last year) so pleased with that. Just back.

My goal is to complete a race in a couple of weeks ( forgot I had signed up!) without dying. Then to be reasonably in shape for another race in Feb. I have a time target to hit for two different parkrun courses, and I would like to have a race/ target every two or three of months to keep me in training for that, otherwise I fall off the wagon.

My biggest goal is not to get injured again though - so to keep up with strength training.

Would also like to fit in some mobility training.

You can tell I am not back at work as I always fill my head with tremendous goals I then find I have not time for once back at work! 😁
