M&S Food Returns

MandSreturns · 30/12/2024 10:54

Does anyone know if M&S will refund a box of (expensive!) chocolate without the receipt?

I wouldn't have thought so, it's essentially food so surely it can't be resold as there is a risk that you could have tampered with it.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 30/12/2024 11:04

Is there something wrong with them?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 30/12/2024 11:04

No, obviously it could have been tampered with

MandSreturns · 30/12/2024 11:05

Hmmm, ok thanks.

@OnlyMabelInTheBuilding no, nothing wrong, just not something I'd eat.

Would you be happy to buy a box of chocolates that had been bought, gifted and returned? I know I wouldn't.
It's the food bank for this.

MandSreturns · 30/12/2024 11:11

@Chewbecca I guess we don't know when stuff is returned & put back on the shelf.

I have definitely returned food to a supermarket previously - Weetabix actually! 🤣

Food bank won't accept, as liqueurs.

I tried to take back some teabags to m&s (bought the wrong ones) and they refused! The box was unopened.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 30/12/2024 11:12

No food returned is put back on the shelf.

Cadburyscreamegg · 30/12/2024 11:16

You take back weetabix?
Chocolate?

Just regift them!! Or send them into school to put into the staff room 😂

NannyR · 30/12/2024 11:16

It says on their website that they don't accept returns on food or food gifts. I guess they would refund or exchange if there was something wrong with it, e.g. the food had gone off but not just because you didn't like it.

Onand · 30/12/2024 11:17

Regift

Doggymummar · 30/12/2024 11:19

I tried yesterday and they said perishables can't be returned.

YogaLite · 30/12/2024 11:23

Just regift them to some place as a thank you.
I am taking some chocolates to a day centre.

MandSreturns · 30/12/2024 11:24

Yeah, will regift, I have an elderly neighbour who will probably like them, thanks! 🤣

The church around the corner from us has a take and share table - it's usually used for getting rid of gluts of produce in the summer, but I noticed on Facebook they've asked people to leave unwanted gifts there this week, and in the photo I could see a box of liqueur chocolates had been left! I'm pretty sure someone will take them and be grateful.

They DO NOT ACCEPT FOOD RETURN
I bought what they called
The indulgent Christmas nut collection. They refused to take it back. Even if I had returned half an hour later!
The reply I got from m&s after emailing them is:
We have rigorous control agreements with all our suppliers to ensure that our quality is maintained to the highest possible standard. Once food leaves our store, we do not take it back due to cross contamination and hygiene purposes, even if sealed and in its original packaging. I hope you can appreciate, as a customer, you would not want to consume food that was returned.
We aren’t trying to be unkind toward your situation, but really just following through on being consistent in the upkeep of our policies.
So don't buy food unless you are very sure.
Other supermarkets like lidl take thing back easily as long as you have receipts. Shop elsewhere if insure.

Anyone know if they accept food returns for poor quality? Their yule log is terrible, dry and stale! It was expensive and I only had 1 slice.
