January payday

So the January payday countdown begins! I was paid early for Decembers pay and it’s never a good thing!

I next get paid on Friday 24th Jan, so 25 days from now!

I have paid all of my bills and have also paid £250 from my credit card ( December spends) I now have £1278 to get me until the 24th Jan. I’ll need to buy food and fuel out of this, plus any general living expenses/ fun,

need to be mych more organised next year

That's a lot of cash for what you need. Plenty out there in a worse position.

notacooldad · 30/12/2024 09:13

Out of the money you have left over i would still manage to save at least £800!
Probably more tbh.

Boyandgirlmum9 · 30/12/2024 09:15

I only got paid 3 days early this month and I didn't even notice until the usual payday. Get paid on 23rd January as normal.

We have a decent savings pot, no credit cards, no loans, just our debit cards so bills will be paid as normal from our accounts without really noticing money going in or out.

TTPDTS · 30/12/2024 09:15

Careful OP - everyone will be along to tell you they take home less than that a month / could save 99% of it / don't you know that's more money than they've ever seen etc 😂

nearlylovemyusername · 30/12/2024 09:16

How many people? Unless you have a family of 10 to feed it's plenty of money and you should be able to save a good chunk given that bills are paid

Oh I’m not saying I’m in a bad position- I’ll be fine but I should have more really.

You’ve got around £400pw, you’ll be fine.

Soccermumamir · 30/12/2024 09:24

I got paid on the 20th December and have to wait till 31st January. I always pretend I haven't been paid and never use it for Christmas, with ds2s' birthday being in January.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/12/2024 09:25

The OP has started the thread in good faith so not sure why all the snarky comments about how that is more than enough. I got paid early but carried on using my credit card. Hopefully towards the end of the month I will have some left over to pay a chunk off. I’ve got £558 left for shopping, fuel and other expenses until 28th.

This is what I need to do next year. I got paid on the 19th and thought I was Taylor fu**ing Swift. I spent about £250 on total shit that was uneccesary. I ran around Primark and H&M like a demon!

I usually pretend I haven’t but instead I put it in a pot and used my credit card 🙈

Thankfully my kitchen is packed with food from Christmas. Is it acceptable to feed your children a cadburys caramel bar and a cheese straw for breakfast??

I get paid the same date as you. Once bills are paid I’ll have about £700 to last until then to cover food, transport, fun stuff etc. for DS and I. We have about 10 days of food in. It’s tight but tbh if I’m being sensible I should have money left over at the end of the month.

femininomenon · 30/12/2024 09:52

Yep my advise is to stick it in savings until your normal pay date in future years as otherwise it is too tempting! I got paid on the 20th (next pay 31st Jan so 6 weekends included in that!) but it's been shoved in my savings until tomorrow when I would normally be paid.

Temporaryname158 · 30/12/2024 09:54

I have approx £550 to last until 26th January but all my bills apart from food are paid and my car is full of fuel.

this should be ok for me if I am careful and don’t have many unexpected expenses.

Of course it is. It’s Xmas 🤣

Trainstrike · 30/12/2024 11:52

It's all relative though isn't it. If you have no food left in, are a family with 4 teens and spend £80 a week on petrol to commute then £1200 probably doesn't stretch far.

ShortyShorts · 30/12/2024 11:52

I get paid monthly but I'm always very glad that my husband has always been paid weekly.

He's been in the job 23 years and I still breathe a sigh of relief every week!

Give them half for breakfast and then blend the rest up with veg for dinner.

Grumpyoldthing · 30/12/2024 11:55

Well we haven’t had any December pay yet!!

me , my husband or the child benefit. It’s due tomorrow all three but I have been convinced that I would have been paid by one of them most days since Christmas Eve !

GinandGingerBeer · 30/12/2024 12:06

I haven't been paid for December yet 😩😩😩

TeenLifeMum · 30/12/2024 12:14

I got paid on 23rd rather than 27th but always put it in savings so I don’t touch it. I hate being paid early. It’s not helpful at all (although colleagues seem to be delighted).

littledawnkey · 22/03/2025 18:03

My current account has £2087.35 in it currently.
£50.35 is my own.
The remaining £2037 is sadly inheritance, that will be transferred into a savings account which will be used for finally getting a major service and 2 new tyres, and brake discs for my 15 year old car, and paying off my debts.
I’ve never had/probably will never had this amount of money in account in one go, but it is really nice to see that figure in account and imagine what might be in future.
