Would this put you off when viewing houses?

We're about to redo our bathroom and we're not planning on moving any time soon, so we want to do what works for us here and now.

Our house is a 192s's semi which was extended to the side before we bought it. We have a lovely big master bedroom with dressing room attached (old en suite) and we have a small tubby tub bath in our bedroom (controversial I know, but it works for us as the room is also a quirky lay out).

However, the main original bathroom is teeny tiny. There are options in the future to convert the loft etc... but we've been renovating for a couple of years now and would like a break from it, the bathroom is the last big job to be done. Potential in the future if we don't move, to shuffle about layout when doing the loft.

Anyway, would you as a buyer be put off by only a shower in the main bathroom. We have a downstairs loo in the utility room, our bedroom bath and then the main bathroom. Plan is to have a pony wall shower, loo and sink.

We're both on board with the plan, this isn't to settle an argument, just for the opinion of others.

Thanks! That's good to hear, you have so many baths but still wouldn't be put off. Our bedroom bath is honestly glorious, I know alot of posters are horrified, but our room layout is quirky and it's tucked round a corner. We have an open fire in the bedroom still (which we rarely use for obvious reasons) and there is nothing better on a freezing cold Saturday morning than lighting the fire, having a bath and listening to the birds.

Wouldn't put me off and I'm also insanely jealous of how cosy and relaxing that sounds. Well apart from the fact I have children so I'd be in the bath 3 seconds before one of them tried to touch the fire or get in with me!

When I buy my forever house it's going to have a roll-top bath in my master bedroom suite! How luxurious. Go for it, you can always change it back if you hate it.

Amazing! You never have to leave, it's pure bliss. We have a small table for our Sunday papers 😂 and a coffee machine tucked into a cupboard. If there's an apocalypse, you'll know where to find me!

I hate baths, showers are more hygienic, environmentally friendly & quicker.
Over bath showers are horrible & not safe for older people.

A shower in a large shower enclosure is the best option 100% of the time imo. They also make small bathrooms look larger.

Bath in a bedroom is gross.

😂 I might come back with my tail between my legs when we have kids

How's it gross? I was agreeing with everything you said until you snuck that in!

We have a similar house to you.

We ditched the bath in main bathroom and it's a wet room with a rain shower head and a hand held.

We do have a loft conversion where there is a bath which no one uses !

Edit read it wrong haha

I guess dirty person in bath in bedroom equals dirty regardless of if you clean the bath after.

Plenty of people have kids without also having baths. Takes a bit of adjusting if you're a bath person but seems to be quite doable.

It almost certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but it would depend on how the rest of the house suited me and what else was on the market at the same time. There are things that are absolutely non negotiable for me - I wouldn't even view a house without off road parking for instance - but if a house otherwise ticked all my boxes, something like a kitchen or bathroom layout that I didn't like wouldn't stop me buying. Well, not unless there was a house on the market at the same time that was equally good in other ways and had a bathroom I loved!
Either way, houses are for living in and unless you were planning to sell very soon I would design your bathroom to suit yourself. So many factors affect a sale and it's more important that you enjoy living in your home whilst it's yours.

Yeah I agree with that. The area is quite a big factor because it's semi rural and not many new houses are built so if you want to live here you're gonna be making a compromise in one way or another. For us it was that the whole place needed renovating and it's a small house, but we wanted to be here so that's that.

4 bedroom house with 2 bedrooms having ensuite (both bath sized showers) and a family bathroom with a bath (and over bath shower). In almost 3 years of living here I have NEVER used the bath 🙈 the children and I (and OH) prefer showers. In fact, the bath was used by the children yesterday (wanted a bubble bath!) for first time in over 6 months. The bathroom with the bath in is rarely even used and is now where the laundry is hung to dry with dehumidifier 😆 most of the family use the master bedroom ensuite with eldest child preferring his own 🤷‍♀️

A nice shower takes preference over a small bath/bath at all for our family (includes young children!).

Go with YOUR preference 😀

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 29/12/2024 20:22

I wouldn't even view it if there was no bath in the bathroom.
