Universal credit - pensioner

Ok so I have a 'first commitments' interview next week, just curious if anyone who is one state pension has had to go to this?

I don't understand what the point of it is as surely I should have no work commitments but when I called I was just told 'it's part of the process' - are they seriously going to ask me to look for work at almost 70 years old?

Is there a difference between UC and Pension Credit?

We can't claim pension credit as not both state pension age, it's UC for mixed age couples.

We are in a similar position, but I think the exact procedure varies by area. We live in a very remote area, so all appointments are by phone. Once my husbands id was confirmed, he had no further contact. I do the regular income updates because I am self-employed, and I put a message in the journal asking about my husbands situation. I was told he was not required to seek work.
I think it's different in my area because the population is very small and scattered, so it's easier to communicate, but hopefully the basic rules are the same.

There’s clearly a procedural hiccup.

Email your MP
Tell them what’s happening and that apparently you have to go back again

Tell them they have a procedural problem and ask them to get to the bottom of this

I know a lot of people never contact their MPs but we had great results with a Covid medication issue not available in Kent that my Uni student had been given in Wales and the MP actually had a large supply sent to the area for all students affected. I was amazed.

So it’s worth drawing their attention to a problem, as it won’t be just you experiencing this
