Are people trolling or do they just not understand basic biology?

Just scrolling through fb and post comes up about egg donation, lots of replies from women in their mid to late 40s saying they would be interested in donating (despite the admin clearly replying that max age is 36) now don’t get me wrong, I myself had a baby in my early/mid 40s (natural conception) so I do know it is possible. However do these women not realise that just because they are still having periods (as some have stated) they are very unlikely to be fertile non the less chances of a healthy baby for couples accepting the eggs. Are many women really this ignorant?

A lot of women simply don't know. There was a thread on here recently with several women insisting that, because they still have regular periods, they could absolutely TTC and have a baby in their late 40s.

In reality, the chances of conceiving at all at 45+ are 5% and the vast majority of that will be at the bottom of that age range, and over 45 the miscarriage rate is over 90%. It doesn't matter if you still menstruate; your chances of a viable egg are looooooooow.

I wonder if it is some women thinking that they can be the exception to the rule? We saw in 2020 and 2021 people ignoring rules in general, not just the man whose ability to father children is never in doubt.

Yes possibly, maybe people thinking their previous good fertility has a bearing even when they’re in their late 40s? Also the idea from school biology lessons that if you’re having periods then you’re probably still fertile, which absolutely isn’t the case at all

Seems crazy and quite sad that they actually think they’ve got a chance of having a baby at that age without a donor. I wonder also whether it’s due to the huge emphasis on not getting pregnant in secondary school sex education (and magazines of my youth) which constantly reinforced the idea that anyone having periods (or perhaps even in the month prior to their first period) could get pregnant and as easily as falling off a log. Also wonder if also due to female relatives who passing off unplanned babies born to teenagers in the family as their own years ago, everyone seems to have had a aunt who had a baby at 51 and yet in nearly 30 years of working in maternity care I have never once come across a 50 year old with a naturally conceived baby

Yes, there was a lot of "my great grandmother had a baby in her fifties" and very little awareness that she totally lied to cover up a pregnancy in a DD. I've seen midwives on here many times say that they've got women up to their midforties and maybe even the odd 46-47yo but women in their fifties, 0.

Yes I’ve come across a handful of women of 43-44 having naturally conceived babies and some colleagues who have once or twice come across women of 46-47. 48+ without IVF frozen/donor eggs completely unheard of but maybe like quads, happens once in a blue moon. Is funny people still actually believe their aunt/great grandma did actually have a baby at 50 🤦🏻‍♀️
