Any plans for January?

Do most people use January as a bit of a "reset" or are you planning anything to counteract the dullness?
I'm happy to use it as a reset but I want some things to look forward too as well.
Looking for ideas.

I’m glad I’ve found this thread.

January always feels so glum.
Im always looking for something to cheer it up.

I do try and do a financial reset in January to counteract the spending of December.
I try and be really mindful of my spending and basically, really rein it in. Last year was very successful.
looking for some January inspiration..

We do dry Jan which I look forward to after the excesses of December. I like the new start feeling.

We are lucky enough to go on holiday to the Caribbean in the NY, so I’m always on a diet in January. This year, it will be less so as I’ve lost a tonne of weight on mounjaro and I’m properly thin for the first time in 5 years.

Moving house. Starting to renovate and possibly hyperventilate!!

LittleLlama · 28/12/2024 14:59

I am going on a short city break holiday in January, which I am really looking forward to. I paid for it a couple of months ago. My DH and I don’t buy each other Christmas gifts and going away in January is relatively inexpensive to other times of the year.

I do use January as a kind of “reset” month, especially with getting back to healthier habits after Christmas. I am also aiming to be better at decluttering this year….maybe!

Iamblossom · 28/12/2024 15:02

I am not sad person but I do get a bit low in Jan after the excitement of December and Christmas which I love. This year was particularly bad.

So in January I have 4 days skiing, a weekend away with the girls and 2 weeks in Goa in February to look forward to, yippee!!

notacooldad · 28/12/2024 15:04

Me and Dh have a spa weekend planned for next weekend.

We are going to Porto on the 17th for the weekend and on the 24th going to Krakow.
We have a couple of gigs to look forward to as well.

I do both!

I find January/February so drab and boring so I save up all year and book a cottage in the dales mid-January (been going several years). It's something to look forward to and because it's already paid for I don't need to worry about that.

I also use January and my little mid-week break as a reset - no shop January - use up everything in the cupboards/freezer. Have one 'project' on the go - this year it's go through 8 boxes of old photos and either scan them or put them in albums. Which ties in nicely with the digital detox.

January feels like such an endlessly long month so I need to have things planned that aren't weather reliant and don't cost much to keep me occupied/stave off the boredom.

I quite like January

What I find helps me is not to start bang on midnight on the first.

We wind down the festive season from 2nd to 5th when we clear away decorations and start from there.

Simple, meaning easy cook, but full of garlic, ginger, spices one pot or casserole meals to help the physical body recover.

A lot of showers are replaced with baths, with face mask, foot pumice.

Good reading material helps.

With adequate clothing outside on a dry day, even if it's cold, you can feel the air go into your lungs, it's meditative and I find frosty gardens, streets, landscapes, hedges really beautiful.

It's a calm time of the year, few social things, no real need to buy.

Good time to plan summer holidays. Make a list of any events you are interested in.

Update your house lighting, paint a room, throw away junk you just clean around.

Like I said it feels cleansing to me. How you personally cleanse, do some of that.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/12/2024 15:22

Juice cleanse
Financial reset ( have tax bill due )
Dry ish Jan ( won't be a hard stop but will avoid booze)
Try a new hobby ( choir!)
Exercise more

Littletreefrog · 28/12/2024 15:23

Moving house but also I work in tax so I will be working very long days and every day at weekends to get everyone's returns filed in time. I don't recover from the December January stress until February.

Kitkat1523 · 28/12/2024 15:24

4 days in Copenhagen.

Whattheduck · 28/12/2024 15:31

Got a couple of theatre trips booked for my DD’s birthday which is in January
Going to book a weekend away with Dh and the dog for the end of February
Sort my diet out now DD’s away at uni it’ll be easier to stick too
Booked a couple of classes at the gym for next week as not been for about a month
Love having a new year clean up and declutter
I like buying fresh flowers this time of year to add a bit of colour I put them in the hall so I see them when I go out and come in always cheers me up

WonderingAboutThus · 02/01/2025 23:24

We really really need to spend less, and also need some time to catch our breaths, so hopefully a very quiet January for us.

Sadsister224 · 02/01/2025 23:26

I'm going on holiday to escape the January blues.
