Can symptoms of cows milk allergy return in baby weeks later?

Ds 12 weeks was put on althera sma for cows milk allergy at around 5 weeks.
We re-introduced cow and gate milk to his diet 2 weeks ago and he has been absolutely fine so we happily thought the allergy had gone away as we were told it could just be his stomach can't handle it just yet so to try in a few weeks.

Today he's crying when being fed and pushing his bottle away. Could this be the milk or would he have been expected to have shown some symptoms by 2 weeks if the cma was still present.

Is he on cows milk?

Can take 2-3 weeks for symptoms to show when reintroducing cows milk.
GPs will always try and get.yoy to just "try" cows milk....we were told.by dietician not to attempt the milk ladder until my son was 1.
He is now 4 and although he has successfully completed the milk ladder he is still not able to have a dairy heavy diet, as much as he doesnt have the symptoms he had as a baby and it may sound d ridiculous but you can tell in his skin and his behaviour.

How long was he off cow milk and did you do the milk ladder?

Is he on cows milk?

He's back on cow and gate formula which contains cows milk so was prescribed a special formula that was hypoallergenic.
This was done under the advice of his dietitian and she was pleased with the results so said to continue on normal formula now.
It's only today he's started pushing his bottle away and crying and been a bit sick so I'm wondering if it's the milk. Yet he's been fine for 2 weeks so I suppose I'm asking if it could be the cma returning.

He was off cows milk for 5 weeks altogether (supposed to be 2) but had jabs and a cold so we were told to wait.

This could be what's happening, we had to try one scoop of cow and gate and then wait 2 weeks and if no symptoms came then go back on to it. Now after 2 weeks he's showing similar symptoms.

Babies are supposed to be dairy free for at least 6 weeks to be be fully symptom free before a challenge.

Who gave this advice? What you’re describing is neither a challenge or the milk ladder.

ginandqualitystreet · 27/12/2024 20:54

The dietitian he was referred to by the health visitor, she prescribed him Althera and said to confirm cma re-introduce one scoop of normal milk back in a feed after 2 weeks on althera and if no reaction in 2 weeks he didn't have an allergy and if he did it would confirm he did.
