Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

I've only been up about twenty minutes & am drinking my first cuppa of the day, with boy kitten on my knee.

We'll be moving soon though - tomorrow is dd2's 15th(!) birthday so I need to sort her cake, find the decorations and wrap her gifts. Also need to blitz the pigsty house, paying particular attention to dd2's room since she's having a sleepover 💤

Dd1's best friend is calling soon to exchange Christmas gifts, too 😊.

We'll pick our way through the day with assorted party food/nibbley bits, followed by what's left of the trifle for afters 😋

And, if there's time, I'll make a start on the couple of bits I brought home from work. Probably not though 🤷‍♀️

Tonight, I want to read today's chapter of Christmas Chronicles & then some more of my latest book so I can get to my Christmas gift - thankfully it's one of The Works Christmas ones, so really easy reading!

What about all of you? 🎄

Working, well "working" as there is feck all to do and utterly pointless

Simonjt · 27/12/2024 12:05

We’re going out for lunch in a bit, then our son is going round a friends house so they can go on a bike ride together. He’s trying to play snakes and ladders with his sister, she’s just turned three so as you can imagine it isn’t going well, so every so often he quietly stands up, goes to the otherside of the room and just breathes slowly before having another go, ah a great lesson in patience.

Once he’s at his friends house we’re off to get some new shoes sorted for our daughter as she’s growing out of her winter shoes quite quickly this year.

Mum has been shopping and bought some really really awful christmas decorations in tje sales, I think she may have finally realised they’re awful as she keeps trying to make them look nicer by moving them round the house.

frozendaisy · 27/12/2024 12:05

Merry third day of Christmas all
Assuming the french hens will turn up at some point!
Still lounging drinking coffee
MIL goes home in an hour
We then have a magazine round to help teens deliver but we get out the house
So a getting back to normality a bit day but might still have a Bailey's coffee when we get back

Then will sit in peace with Christmas jigsaw, easy food, G&T, bath, books.

Eldest needs to do some revision. That shouldn't be a battle in the slightest!

It's all good. No trips to A&E this year which is a win (yes the bar is that low)

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone, it’s a very foggy, damp and murky morning again here, we’re just back from a muddy dog walk and both she and DH are asleep in the chair 🙄
I’ve lit the wood burner, there’s plenty of bits for lunch and dinner so I don’t need to cook and I don’t have anything planned for the rest of the day.
Another coffee I think first….

Morning @lucysmam and everyone! Thanks for the thread. 🙂 I hope everyone has had an easy past few days.

I’m still lying in bed contemplating whether I should go back to sleep or not. Eventually I’ll get up to menu plan and make a shopping list for a holiday friend dinner we’re hosting on Sunday evening. Then I’ll take myself off to M & S and Morrisons to get the required items. Hopefully I can snag a few discounts too. After that we’ll also be clearing the living room of leftover wrapping and boxes.

I’m not sure what’s for dinner yet. I made a beef, vegetable, and barley soup last night but we have some nice roast sirloin beef leftovers that need to be eaten. It may be another hodgepodge dinner / eating day TBH.

Love the term HODGEPODGE.

Might use that more often haha

Good afternoon @lucysmam & everyone - nice to have a weekday thread. Not sure how it’s already gone 2pm! Up around 7 & made a cuppa for me & DH to have in bed. Did the dishwasher & put dry clothes from the tumble dryer into a basket then wet clothes into the dryer - it’s not raining but it’s a little misty & damp. I braved Tescos which actually wasn’t bad then Asda to get the bits Tescos didn’t have & ended up spending another £20! Bought alcohol free Pinot Grigio which I’m trying to convince myself that I like! DH is making sausage rolls & mincepies. Looking forward to a warmed mincepie with clotted cream later. Loads of leftovers. DH doing a creamy turkey pasta bake tomorrow. Having bangers & mash for tea. Watching the bunnies playing in the garden. DH took down the grotty curtains at the French windows before Christmas & the kitchen looks so much better without them. I’m going to try to keep my table clear as I was gradually disappearing under piles of magazines etc - need to take the festive cloth & placemats off when I have a pvc cloth to use instead.

Afternoon all.

Managed to drag the kids out of bed this morning and we took the dog on a big walk. Came back and had a cheeky doze. Kids watching tv and playing with Lego now.

Think for tea will be another night for leftovers. And reading my new book.

Currently just sitting in the living room Mumsnetting with just the Christmas tree lights on and the cat on my knee. Bliss.

Paradoes · 27/12/2024 14:42

Friends calling over shortly so the kids will play and it was nice to give us kick up the backside and get house sorted

cleaned the bathrooms and put washing away. I nipped out for groceries and a coffee. Then once visitors go we will watch films

hope you are all well 🎄

Good day lucysmam and all. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.

We aren't doing much today, just mooching about and that includes food. We had the roast dinners Christmas and Boxing Day, and now we're looking at what's left. The dogs will get the gravy and trimmings from the joint and the extras.
i had trifle for brunch and DH had stollen and Stilton.
We are having smoked salmon and salad for dinner.

I am deep into one of my Xmas books, plus I simply couldn’t sleep last night for some reason, so a doze might be on the cards. Then I really must get on upstairs.
DH has spent half an hour in the shed, muttering about flattening excess cardboard from all the parcels to fit in the bin, hung his new painting and is going to the pub later, via taking the dogs down the riverbank.

Auntieoftheyear · 27/12/2024 15:49

Love the weekday editions, can we keep it going until new years @lucysmam? 😁

I was up in time for a morning gym class then took myself for a coffee in town with my Christmas book followed by a walk around the shops. DH made Shakshukha for lunch, I jumped in the shower then got cosy on the sofa with DH, DCat and a bunch of Christmas treats. No plans for the rest of the day. Might take a nap upstairs (the cat, who is currently fast asleep in her favourite position, curled up against my legs while resting her chin on my ankle, would no doubt follow me to bed immediately for more snuggles) or watch a show. DH is next to me playing a video game I got him for Christmas while I read and mumsnet. Macncheese, a film and more treats later.

Not done much other than feed the animals! But for some unfathonable reason I went to bed last night at 4am!
So about to drop DD to train as she's off on a sleepover, then I'll walk the dog and then, and then, even if I kill myself doing it, I have to do my taxes. Not complicated, not hard, but time consuming (the three to four hours feels like three weeks) and depressing. I usually get it done in October/November but I just haven't been able to.
Then leftovers for solo dinner and Strike on TV.

I ended up sorting my taxes too, though just a ten minute job in my case, sorting out my tax card for next year which only needed predicting my income and commuting deductions.

lucysmam · 27/12/2024 16:57

@Auntieoftheyear I'll try!

Another vote for weekday threads @lucysmam 🙂🙂

Crunchymum · 27/12/2024 19:02

I got very confused with my days for a minute there, and I'm also very late to the party.

We had a half lazy day (I did some washing, kids had baths, popped to the shop for food supplies) and at Midday we went to visit the inlaws as they have family over from Australia - DP's cousin who I've only ever met once!! So we are just home from an afternoon of food (buffet / nibbly food), festive games and lots of kids running riot.

DP and older kids are going to watch the Arsenal game in a bit and I'm putting little one to bed and I'll finish off the Quality Street with my book and a cup of tea.
