I bloody love British weather

Yesterday I went for a walk up a local hill. It was grey and cold, and really foggy at the top, not raining but so much moisture in the air that you could feel the drops of it on your face as you walked and my clothes were soaking by the time I finished. And I bloody loved it. I was too ill to run in it yesterday but felt better today so went for a quick run on the hill. This misty, grey, damp weather is my absolute favourite to run in. It is my Christmas weather. Every Christmas day I run up that hill and its usually weather like this.

I love British weather, varied, atmospheric, rarely too hot.

Surely I am not the only one to feel like this? Surely someone else must genuinely like our weather too!

I don't mind the British weather but I do hate the countryside turning to mud in winter

Spanielsaremad · 26/12/2024 16:16

Yes op. I agree. Love this weather for a run. Nothing beats it, getting sweaty in the damp weather then getting in a hot shower after. It makes me feel fresh and clean. Bliss!

DatingDinosaur · 26/12/2024 16:16

It was glorious sun and mild here yesterday. Very un-Christmassy. A complete contrast to today's stubborn mist, although it did make for an atmospheric walk through the woods this lunchtime.

I love the variety of our British weather although I can't cope with the heat nowadays (probably menopause). Not a great fan of days and days of endless grey drabness.

Wheniwas · 26/12/2024 16:18

Love it.

1984Winston · 26/12/2024 16:20

I like it too, I love winter, love a storm, not too keen on hot weather. I just like the changing seasons

SirChenjins · 26/12/2024 16:23

I enjoy a variety of winter - but we get too much grey, damp weather. I’m out in all weathers walking the dog - I have really good clothing and footwear to see me through the cold wet winter months - and I far, far prefer feeling the sun’s warmth on my face without feeling restricted in my clothing. Being out in the woods late at night when it’s still light and it’s very peaceful, just me and the dog, is the best feeling ever.

livingafulllife · 26/12/2024 16:23

I love all the weather mumsnet hates.

Lottapianos · 26/12/2024 16:37

I'm so grateful for the variety in seasons. I'm not keen on rain, and I struggle in very hot weather, but other than that I enjoy our weather. I know someone who used to live in Abu Dhabi, and the weather was either hot, hotter or blazing! Sounds absolutely miserable

I love mud! A good mud run is a thing of glory!

I love every season of British weather. It’s so foggy by me today and just feels wonderful.

Love a storm too!

I love it. I love the variety we have here, and how mild it is, for the most part. I like the cold, the rain, the grey skies. I like the sun, the blue skies, the clear bright days. I like snow, and frost, and mist, and fog. I even quite like wind! I enjoy the bright, light days of summer. I like the short days and long dark evenings of winter. I'm happy with November drizzle. And I'm really lucky for feeling that way, I think. I like all the seasons, all the weathers.

That said, I live in the south, don't have any serious health conditions that are affected by the weather, have a warm house, and don't have a dog (I do live in the countryside and it gets very muddy, but not having to clean a dog every day makes a difference, I think.)

You aren't alone. I love rain, mist, grey days, long nights. Spring dampness.

Not a fan of the sun.

I'm the same. Grey, cool afternoons, brooding purple-y black skies, mist, fog and mizzle 😍 Thunderstorms, torrential rain, frost, snow, wind that goes right through you. Absolutely bloody love it 🤩

SerendipityJane · 26/12/2024 16:55

There's a song for that 😆

eurochick · 26/12/2024 16:58

I live on top of a hill and we have spent the last two days in a cloud with only a couple of metres visibility. It's very dark and grey. I prefer summers where we can see for miles and get amazing sunsets.

Delatron · 26/12/2024 17:15

Just looked at the forecast. No sunny days for at least a week. Same old grey cloud day after day. Gets quite boring.

I’d love it to snow. Or do something different!

I love our weather but not the effects of climate change which we can already see.

EllieRosesMammy · 26/12/2024 18:10

I'm the same, OP 😂 I enjoy summer for about a week then I'm so glad when it rains again. I would not survive in a hot country, I get so irritable at the heat. There's just something really cosy about rainy grey skies ☔

WinterFrog · 26/12/2024 18:12

I love it too OP!

HoppityBun · 26/12/2024 18:12

Same here.

I love mud! A good mud run is a thing of glory!

The countryside turning to mud is crap for farmers, their crops, and animals. Lovely for your runs, but endless crap weather is not good for food production or animal welfare.

Sandsnake · 26/12/2024 18:20

I enjoy the variety to an extent but the last two days have been rubbish here! Fog / mist all day with some mizzle and just feeling colder than it should. On Christmas Eve it was like that but then lifted early afternoon and that led to beautiful soft light, so that was nice. But I do agree that it’s not bad to run in.

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/12/2024 18:46

I'm very appreciative of our temperate British weather, love the "green and pleasant land" aspect of it and the lack of real danger.

I love the early morning mist in Autumn most of all, so beautiful and atmospheric and sadly a bit lacking as I live in the middle of a big city.

But I can't say I love the British weather like you OP. I really need some more sunshine and warm or hot weather in Spring and Summer. We have far too many wet summers where most of the country feels down and disappointed. I think our collective mental health suffers.
