I bloody miss dvds at Christmas.

Watching Gavin and Stacey last night reminded me of getting the series 1&2 boxset for Christmas years ago and how brilliant all the dvd extras were, cast commentary on each episode, outtakes, behind the scenes making of ect. I kinda miss that these days with streaming, easier though it is you don't get all the extras. The cast commentary on the Love Actually dvd is better than the actual film!

Also all the comedians used to bring their stand up dvds out at Christmas and then on Boxing day they'd all be half price.

I'm only going back about 14 years ago or so but it feels like a different century!

Still got a player and am currently watching West Wing. Watched Game of Thrones recently. All on eBay cheap!

I'm gradually picking up all of Game of Thrones in charity shops. It means that I can rewatch it any time without re subscribing to Now TV.

Well why did you get rid of them? I have my entire CD and dvd collection from over the decades. I have my dvd player in my bedroom. I have some great films that are just never aired these days. And I like listening to albums not playlists so I still have my old hi-fi separates which sounds better than my Sonos. You don't need to get rid of stuff just because new things become available.
You can buy a dvd player very cheaply.

I didn't!!! I still own many dvds but I'm talking I miss the fact new ones aren't released like they used to be, with all the extras and Easter eggs and stuff. Or stand up comedians don't really release them at Christmas anymore, it all goes straight to streaming.

If you are say a couple with no kids and don't play video games, it's consigned for them...

It's a matter of time before they ditch the DVD drives too.

Ages ago when I watched the DVD of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I went to the extras and they were interviewing people. She was in a make up chair and her film Father (a bloody awful character ,)came in and she said " Hi Papa! which creased me up!!

I'm surprised the latest next generation consoles haven't already done away with the dvd drive as you don't actually need a physical game disc anymore as you can just download a purchase.

It's definitely the way they are going the Xbox X has just been released disk-less. The Xbox Series S has never had a drive.

The PS5 is similar now available without a disk drive.

I'm certainly not going to be encouraging DS to get anymore games on disk.

I got a dvd for Christmas this year.
Looking forward to watching something without having to workout which app it's on, how to skip adverts, wondering whether to subscribe to a service for it and forgetting to cancel, find it on YouTube filmed badly and in segments.
Bliss!!

Needmorelego · 27/12/2024 11:26

There's still new releases.
Go to your nearest HMV (or their website).

RedRiverShore5 · 27/12/2024 11:33

We have 2 dvd players, often things aren't on the streaming channels, I still also have my old Apple SuperDrive

Pamosonic · 27/12/2024 11:33

Infact the dvd section seems to have the largest floor area space in hmv still.
