Ds recovering from pneumonia which involved a trip to hospital and 3 lots of antibiotics. It cleared up , he felt great just a little tired for a few days/ week. Then yesterday started with a bit of a cold and cough. By bedtime tonight he sounded like pneumonia cough. Oxyimeter shows 96/97 oxygen so mot too concerned on that. In normal times I would ring my Dr accute care team for advice. Not open tomorrow so not much choices... pharmacy? Or 111 who will send him to hospital?

If he just has a cough and a fever that can be controlled with calpol, I’d just let him rest and see how he gets on. Everyone is sick at the moment and pneumonia is a long road in terms of recovery. When I last had it, I spent 3 nights in hospital, still had a cough/trouble breathing for about 2 months and wasn’t 100% for 6 months. I would let him rest and see how he is at the end of the week.

How old is he? What's his temperature?

Was he previously admitted to hospital and in UV antibiotics? Did they do blood tests?

Thank you.
He's 8. Went to Dr. Sent immediately to hospital as thought sepsis- it wasnt- given anti b's, improved a bit, got virus, week later more antibiotics that didn't clear it. Hospital then prescribed a new antibiotic through Dr. This cleared it. That was a week ago. Oxygen has been around 95 at worse, 97 at best. Temp is high 37s but no fever.

I would suggest 111 if you are concerned. Pneumonia can take a while to recover from and often an x-ray is recommended after 6 weeks to ensure the lungs are clear. A measure of infection can be raised heartrate so not sure of you can monitor that.

Trust your instincts as I think a mum knows when a child is very unwell. Do make sure he is well hydrated

@Livinghappy thanks, think that's what I'll do.
