Baby touched phone screen. Concerned about germs

Very PFB of me I know but my 9 week old DS was flailing arms about and reached out and connected with my phone screen. He likes chewing his hands so he then had it in his mouth 5 seconds later.

I read that the average phone screen is 10x dirtier than a toilet seat. I do Milton wipe it when I remember but thinking back, the last time I did this was probably a week ago.

Is it very likely he will be sick or just my PPA talking?

OP please please seek help for your anxiety. That reaction is neither normal nor healthy.

villainousbroodmare · 25/12/2024 18:16

Chat to your GP as soon as you can, please. Not about your baby touching about your phone but about your levels of fear.

Overthebow · 25/12/2024 18:23

Wait till he starts putting everything, including your phone, in his mouth.

Are you going to put your baby on the floor to wriggle around? Because that's a normal part of their development. No floor is sterile, there will be germs. You can't spend all the time worrying about something that doesn't actually matter.
I honestly think that so many people today are overly anxious and wonder why.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 25/12/2024 18:58

So in 9 weeks your child had never made contact with anything non sterile? What about other people picking him up and kissing him? Please tell me you haven't kept him away from this?

daraghdecember · 25/12/2024 18:58

Sorry OP but you need to chill. What will you do when he starts sticking things in his mouth? Crawling?

bakewellbride · 25/12/2024 19:00

In a few years time you could have a second baby who is licking filthy softplay like all second / Third etc babies do! They all survive.

Germs are good and important for a good immune system.

batshitaboutcatshit · 25/12/2024 19:23

@Tiredalwaystired Did you misread what I posted?

BendingSpoons · 25/12/2024 20:01

Presumably you have sometimes touched your phone and then your baby without washing. It will be fine.

isobelok · 25/12/2024 20:10

Thanks everyone I think I knew it was stupid and irrational but anxiety does this sometimes. I am addressing it. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas. X

no I don’t think so. Leukaemia is not spread through germs. It read in a sarky way which I assume was what you were saying.

Do you know what sterile means?

Tiredalwaystired · 26/12/2024 22:54

eh? Germs won’t cause leukaemia. It’s a gene mutation. A sterile house won’t prevent it and a germ filled house won’t cause it

TurkeyDinosaurs2 · 26/12/2024 22:57

I can't remember the last time I cleaned my phone screen...

Yes but a sterile house WILL cause it which is what I said in my original post

SilviaDaisyPouncer · 26/12/2024 23:38

Tbh, I think a few germs are good for a child.

Not on its own it won’t. The genetic triggers need to be there in the first place too. You’ve read the headline not the study.

batshitaboutcatshit · 27/12/2024 08:50

@Tiredalwaystired

I have read it. I didn't mean it definitely will cause it, I was just trying to explain to you that you had misread what I had said by commenting on the wrong issue.

I was originally just pointing out to the op that being super hygienic has been found to be a cause of leukaemia.

Eenameenadeeka · 27/12/2024 09:03

Unless you are cleaning your hands between touching your phone and your baby, he's being exposed to the germs on your phone. Which is fine for a healthy baby. You are right that they are covered in germs though, when my son was in NICU there were signs about how dirty phones were and to sanitize them, which my husband and I did all the time. I struggle with anxiety as well and relate to the worry but baby will be just fine.

PortiasBiscuit · 27/12/2024 09:07

Currently eating toast and doom scrolling, so screen had tiny bit of honey on it, which I did lick off.
Wouldn’t lick a toilet seat though.

OrlandointheWilderness · 27/12/2024 09:09

Yep kids need germs I'm afraid!

Sossijiz · 27/12/2024 09:18

When your baby starts crawling, he will be touching/licking/inserting into his mouth many things far more dirty than a phone.

Dobbythechristmaself · 27/12/2024 09:20

OP, it’s just your anxiety that’s the problem. Try to remind yourself that one of the most important things that should be going on at this stage of their development is exposure to their environment and germs and all the bacteria that exists. Honestly you do a baby so much harm by sanitising their environment.

MostHighlyFlavoredGravy · 27/12/2024 09:24

He will be fine, but speak to someone if you are regularly feeling this anxious! My baby DS regularly grabs at his bits during nappy changes before I've managed to wipe the poo off them . You can't keep them away from every germ!
