I’m working. It’s a normal working day!

I always save holiday to have a three week break at this time of year. It's lovely

gettingolderbutcooler · 24/12/2024 10:58

M&S to pick up food order.

Playing Christmas music on upstairs and downstairs Alexa to torture the kids.

Drink and snack. Repeat.

Maybe interspersed with a light snooze- 10 minutes or 4 hours- who knows? It'll be a Christmas surprise!

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/12/2024 10:58

Went out early doors to pick up bread and fish for tomorrow. I'm working until about 2pm, then I will bake a ginger cake and sort out tomorrow's pudding.

I'm then planning a long hot bath and to do my nails. Mr Monkey is due home from work at about 7pm when we will have a cheese and cold cuts buffet, crack open the Christmas wine and watch some telly.

Not having to travel anywhere on Xmas Eve is the best.

medianewbie · 24/12/2024 10:59

Christingle service at 3. Midnight Mass at 11. In between a beach walk & reruns of old favourite Dr Who/Wallace & Gromit episodes. Fish & chips for supper.

Goatblu · 24/12/2024 11:00

Waiting for husband to finish work (hopefully at 4) for the 2 hour drive to stay with family. Not expecting the M5 to be much fun at that time of day but we're limited with timings.

3kidsaremorethanenough · 24/12/2024 11:02

Visiting mum this morning with presents, and then home to get the cheese board sorted for two older Dds coming home tonight with a nice bottle of white in the fridge- extremely excited 😊

bigkidatheart · 24/12/2024 11:09

I am at work until this afternoon, i still have presents to buy, not wrapped a thing, have to do housework (floors and bathrooms), drop presents off at families, pick presents up from families, prep dinner for tomorrow, arrrrghhhh. Then I am going to get drunk 😖

Davros · 24/12/2024 11:10

It's just me and DD (21). I'm toying with persuading her to go to our local cinema to see It's A Wonderful Life this afternoon. WHY do they stop Christmas films at cinemas the second Christmas Day is over? I'd love to go on 26th or 27th but it's all Sonic, Paddington, Moana, Wicked. We will get kebabs from a great place early evening. If we don't go to the cinema we will probably play board games and watch Bridget Jones Diary later. I'm watching Great Expectations right now but I need to have a shower and get dressed!

LinesAndLinesAndLinesAndLines · 24/12/2024 11:11

We're having a lazy day, we're watching Christmas films and DD has had her Christmas Eve box and is making some Christmas cards for her cousins. Once she's bathed and in bed I'll set out her presents and watch Fright Night whilst eating chips and cheese like I do every Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is always so hectic, we like to relax as far as possible today.

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2024 11:18

Last Christmas present arrived this morning - and thanks Royal Mail even though I left 'leave in safe place' instructions the guy was about to drive off with it!
Generally just wrapping last couple gifts and tidying up. Collecting my son (he is working today and lives about 70 plus miles away) after work and dinner and movie.

toastedcrumpetsrock · 24/12/2024 11:24

Watched Elf this morning, this afternoon is veg prep, cook the ham, make mince pies, listen to Christmas music and then more films.

MrsTulip · 24/12/2024 11:28

Have done a big clean of the kitchen so going to have a shower and some lunch before heading off to church about1:15pm then a mad dash to the other church I'm based at for their 4pm service. Home bake mince pies, eat pizza, shower and change back out about 7:15pm for a 8pm service back home do any last minute jobs shower and change back out about 10:40 for an 11:30 service, come home be bouncing off the walls, but try and sleep

McZeba · 24/12/2024 11:36

Gammon cooked, swede and carrot mash done ✔️ House tidy n smelling festive from the tree, candles and wood burner. Table set for tomorrow. Delivering some Christmas Eve treats to MIL and then collecting Our Daughter and her Boyfriend once they have finished work. Then it's board games n drinks before a gammon, egg n chips dinner.

raspberryripplecheesecake · 24/12/2024 12:14

Unfortunately, working but from home until .. hopefully, 4pm (depends on how day pans out). Then clean the kitchen, make a lemon cheesecake... takeaway when DS finishes work about 7pm and watch a Christmas film with the family. Usually still wrapping presents at 2am but sorted these in the week so will be nice to put my feet up.

How do I make my house smell Christmassy? boil some water with cinnamon and cloves on the hob? I could add some lemon peel maybe.

CandyLeBonBon · 24/12/2024 12:18

Just tidying - got last few bits from Tesco - have made a picky lunch and have set the Christmas table. Will Hoover and clean bathrooms and change the sheets and then sit down with the teens/young adults and watch cluck and collect, drink prosecco and enjoy a lovely evening with my kids

TheTecknician · 24/12/2024 12:34

I've prepared tomorrow's lasagne - thats my Christmas dinner, as it were. Done the washing up. Walked down to Costa for coffee and back (surprisingly quiet in a retail park on Christmas Eve). Will have a spot of lunch later and listen to FONLAC on Radio 4 at 3pm. A substantial bite to eat this evening then off to pub.

As I write this the sun is trying to shine and I'm sitting by an open window. It's more like early March than late December and I'm not complaining!

hby9628 · 24/12/2024 12:39

My kids are so excited it's insane! They've been like this since yesterday....I'm surprised as they are 10&14.
Anyway we've been out early this morning & they are heading out again with DH shortly whilst I do a bit of a tidy round. Then a quick pressie handover with some friends, then pjs, tea & hopefully some relaxing time
They were up late last night so hoping they will crash tonight. Praying for all of us with giddy kids!

creamsnugjumper · 24/12/2024 10:50

All of my plans have flown out of the window. I'm sat in bed eating a porridge and about to take some steroids as I've managed to pick up a god awful chest infection.

It's painful and I'm seriously grumpy, my DH and 2 x DS are having to pick up everything as I'm struggling to even walk around without feeling dizzy and wheezy.

Bah humbug

No clue how I'll feel tomorrow but I'm staying away and in bed today, my DH is flapping about, the house needs a bloody good clean and there is loads to do, but I'm not sure he quite realises what's needed and I just don't have the energy to even help.

I had a nasty chest infection last November and the steroids worked wonders. I hope you have antibiotics too - they also helped enormously.

Octopink · 24/12/2024 12:46

DH has just finished work so we're having lunch and then heading to the playpark with the DC. We're having a 'party' later (just the 4 of us) - party food, pass the parcel, treasure hunt, decorating cookies and dancing to Christmas songs. Once the DC are in bed, DH will make pudding for tomorrow and I'll stick a Christmas film on whilst I finish wrapping the last of the presents.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 24/12/2024 13:00

My elder son is here, and we're watching Home Alone Lost in New York and eating marmite sandwiches and freshly cooked sausages rolls. Simple pleasures 🙂 Younger DC will be here tomorrow, but I have nothing to prep or do ...

creamsnugjumper · 24/12/2024 13:08

@TheTecknician that gives me hope!! I only got steroids as the GP thought it's just viral, I've just got up had a shower and need to lie down again.

Dueanamechange2025 · 24/12/2024 13:10

Technically working today but so far had two emails (I will never waste holiday booking it off again!) so been cleaning the house this morning.
Visiting in laws this afternoon and then Chinese take away and Christmas movie tonight.

Rainbow1901 · 24/12/2024 13:29

Cooked the Ham and sampled it!! 😋 Nipped to the shop for one gift bag and some Amaretto (used the last of it in the trifle yesterday) Just cooked up a few nibbly bits for DH and I to enjoy while watching Christmassy stuff on TV - The Larkins at the moment!! Out to DS's later to deliver meat for tomorrow and maybe Kids church service this afternoon. Just a chill day really.

Xag · 24/12/2024 13:32

Plan is out of the window, and I’m watching reruns of Christmas cookery programmes (Jamie at the moment on freeview 43) whist I sit at home waiting for a parcel that the tracker says is out for delivery today.

Also wondering if I should start a sweepstake on whether it’ll arrive today at all, but if do, when?
