Or fed up to the back teeth with it all already?

Just chatting to my cousins last night and one of them said they just wished it was over!

I am looking forward to it.

A lovely day of family togetherness, good food, nice wine, etc.

I'm looking forward to the whole Christmas season! I go back to work on the 8th January. Many, many books to be read between now and then!

JoanChitty · 24/12/2024 09:22

Looking forward to it! All our family together. 2024 has been a difficult year with miscarriage, death and illness so we’re all looking forward to a new beginning.
Flowers to all those who find it hard at this time of year

I'm starting to now that the house is clean and tidy and all presents wrapped apart from the odd one or two. When the small kids are in bed I'm actually looking forward to the dinner prep with a large Baileys in hand.

I think I have an actual problem in that I can't enjoy pretty much anything until I have a clean house, even if the particular activity doesn't involve being in the house.

Yes, I really enjoy this holiday😁

MistletoeMoments · 24/12/2024 09:34

I was really really looking forward to it, but I came down with the lurgy on Saturday night and now I feel awful. Sad

No prosecco or nice food for me.

DGPP · 24/12/2024 09:45

Can’t wait, I have children and it’s lovely

It’s a reminder of how isolated I am, so I’ll be glad when we get to New Year’s Day. Christmas Day is the same as any other day I’m not in work for me.

Yep I hear you. Hard to describe- the physical and mental discomfort of having to endure this period of time

AsACloud · 24/12/2024 10:05

I am as Christmas Day is the only day that I am 100% off work! My work only close one day a year so I can switch the phone off and have total peace for the day…bliss.

EmeraldDreams73 · 24/12/2024 10:09

Not really! My dds are with their Dad for 48 hours from lunchtime today, my dh is working (out at 7am, back around 5) and I'll be hosting my in laws and cooking all afternoon. In laws will be sleeping in the living room from about 9 so me and dh will decamp to our room to watch telly.

doodleschnoodle · 24/12/2024 10:13

Yes! It's just the four of us, no schedule or timings, we will eat dinner whenever it's ready, and spend the day opening presents and playing games. Can't wait to see the DC opening their pressies Xmas Grin

hopeishere · 24/12/2024 10:20

I like it up to a point. This year it's just is for Christmas lunch though and I'm kind of dreading that bit. I like seeing the kids open their presents and we go to my sisters for a bit.

I like Boxing Day more. No pressure. Just lie about reading.

BearBuggy · 24/12/2024 10:35

No and I feel so guilty. My children are the perfect age and everyone tells me I’ll miss this. I know that but the last week all I’ve wanted to do is burst into tears. No idea why tbh.
I think maybe the stress of solo parenting for 5 years has taken its toll. I’ll stick a smile on but feel miserable

yoshiblue · 24/12/2024 10:46

Just getting over food poisoning that started Sunday night. I've not been this ill for years, horrific d&v.

I've had to postpone the family Christmas meal until the weekend and I'm gutted I'm going to be missing midnight mass tonight.

DH has been a trooper and my DS 11 is bouncing around happy. We will make the best of it!

Els1e · 24/12/2024 11:00

Yes, looking forward to it. I'm cooking but there is only 4 of us for Christmas dinner. Other people will be popping in but we're all quite relaxed so no hassle.

ballyhoomara · 24/12/2024 11:02

Yes and no - I had unplanned surgery last week and am tender and tired but am still hosting - 5 in laws arriving this afternoon. I think they are a bit disappointed that we've said they can only come for 3 nights rather than the 5 they wanted as I'm not up to it. DH has been brilliant managing their expectations and getting the house ready. That said it's been a solitary sober run up to the holidays due to my illness so Inmoght enjoy it more than i though - I'm gonna put on my cheery hat and start the catering juggernaut shortly.

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2024 12:21

I'm tired already! But no I'm soooo looking forward to it! Collecting my son later (he lives on the IOW) from the ferry and Die Hard tonight!
But I do always feel a bit anti climactic afterwards. All that planning, buying just the right present, tree and decorating, the anticipation...then it's over in a few hours! My son has to leave Boxing Day and while we will take it easy after I always feel a bit meh.

Upstartled · 24/12/2024 12:22

Yes, ticking off jobs like a bloody legend here. Looking forward to it all now.

Arraminta · 24/12/2024 12:39

Yes, absolutely. We'll have a lazy morning drinking coffee and opening presents. Our DDs have some beautiful gifts and I'm excited to see their faces.

Then we're getting dressed up and going for a 6 course Christmas Lunch at our favourite gastro pub.

On the way home we'll call in for a glass of bubbly with my Auntie and cousins.

Then it's home in time for for posh PJs, chocolates and Gavin & Stacey.

ThatshallotBaby · 24/12/2024 06:56

Frankly no. I’m with the in laws. They specialise in the barbed comment and utter smugness.

Sympathy! I never want to hear the phrase 'we ladies have to watch what we eat' again as food is passed over my head. I'm sure that a certain family member is pleased that they've lost weight but I'm now developing a bizarre craving for mince pies!
