Help me get better for tomorrow!

Here I am awake, unable to sleep again as I’m so uncomfortable 😣
I left work early yesterday and I’m going to phone in sick today.
I’m so pissed off as for the first time ever, we’re going on out on Christmas Day for lunch so I need to be fighting fit.
Started off Friday with losing my voice (laryngitis) I felt otherwise ok though.
That didn’t last 😩
Symptoms are:
headache
slight temperature
REALLY sore painful throat
sneezing and coughing (which hurts)
I did have body aches, but that seems to have gone now.
I’m trying to stay positive. Tomorrow is another day. I’ve got a few meds here, but is there anything really amazing I can try?
I’d just like to get some sleep, too…
Thank You All MN ♥️

Seriously cut out all sugar. A bio pharmacologist told me that sugar is fertiliser for the bacteria in your throat. It does help.

EmeraldRoulette · 24/12/2024 01:34

If you have someone who can go to a health food shop and/or a well stocked Boots

I've had some luck with oregano oil capsules and allicin tablets. Both are natural anti virals. Couple of times I had those and fended off bugs really fast. Might be coincidence of course.

wish you better asap.

Take the max cold and flu tablets and rest in bed all day. But I’m usually one for saying carry on if you are t too unwell but if you’re too sick to go to work you really shouldn’t be going out for Christmas lunch tomorrow, there will be elderly and vulnerable people there and you are properly sick.

It’s just a table of three, myself and my 2 adult children. We won’t be socialising with anyone else there.

We find a high dose of vitamin C helps. We take at the first sign then throughout until well again

At Christmas??!!! 😮😢

WillowTit · 24/12/2024 05:55

paracetamol
plenty of fluids
wash your hands

CleanShirt · 24/12/2024 06:00

I hear you OP! I've been awake since 2.30 with razorblade throat and have to get a flight at 10 😭 eating all the vitamin c trying to get rid of it.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 24/12/2024 06:07

Difflam gargle for the throat. And also gargle dispersible aspirin, it’s the only thing that touches the throat razor blades for me.

toabsentfriends · 24/12/2024 06:16

I’m in the same boat, but can’t realistically call in sick as I can’t see my work believing me for a second. I’m coughing to the point of retching 😷 I’m hoping they take one look at me and tell me to go home, I won’t be able to do patient facing contact. My managers won’t be in so will see what colleagues say. Presenteeism and zero sick pay means that for the last four weeks the building has been full of people coughing, norovirus and fevers.

Arthien · 24/12/2024 06:18

If there's a chance the throat situation is tonsillitis, gargle with antiseptic mouthwash 3 or 4 times a day, like Corsodyl, or Boots or Superdrug do an own brand.

Sorry I thought you meant you were eating out at a restaurant or pub.

MillyGoat · 24/12/2024 07:28

The sore throat is an immediate sign of covid whenever I have had it. Instant positive on test.

Get a test and then do the decent thing, no amount of meds can stop you passing it on yo
itners.

Fuckitydoodah · 24/12/2024 07:32

Lemsip max and Ibuprofen in between doses.

Chloraseptic throat spray.

Plenty of fluids.

Silvertulips · 24/12/2024 07:34

Sudafed gold is amazing. Contain caffeine so will keep you going/

CherryogDog · 24/12/2024 07:42

@RosaMoline hope you get well soon!
I'm just brewing something similar, had razor blade throat a few days ago, then was fine, woke up this morning feeling crap. DP came home from work early yesterday, went to bed he's still there coughing his guts up.
@Resilienceisimportant when I have a virus I crave sugary tea, never when I'm well. Do you think my body wants to make it worse to get it over faster?

Oneearringlost · 24/12/2024 07:51

OP, Soluble Aspirin ( 2 300mg tablets) are your friend here. You need to gargle with them for your sore throat, the residual granules will sit on your throat, giving you a local analgesic effect, but the rest, after swallowing will ease aches/pains and bring any temperature down.
Ensure what you buy is definitely the soluble tablets, remember? 2 300mg tablets, ( with food, if possible) but not essential.
Don't take ibuprofen with them, but you can take paracetamol with them.
All the v best.

Mmmkaay · 24/12/2024 07:56

Zinc tablets (or soluble vit C with zinc) - definitely reduces length and severity of colds and flu. If you get that early sign of a scratchy throat and get the zinc quickly enough it can actually stop the cold in its tracks. I keep some at work and home now just in case. Supermarkets do own brand versions which are inexpensive.

Worried8263839 · 24/12/2024 08:00

I can't remember the name of it but the pharmacy will have a throat spray that effectively numbs your throat. Was a godsend for me when I had tonsillitis, well worth it! Hope you feel better x

MonopolyQueen · 24/12/2024 08:40

Yes to resting all day - don’t go out, send someone else to buy you supplies.

Yes to gargling saltwater, numbing throat spray as often as you are permitted it.

Gargle Solpadeine soluble.

Sip a gallon of warm water

Have a steamy bath

Don’t go outside - repeat. Best remedy is bed rest. Turn phone off and doze.
