To wonder what DD might have caught

We went out for a meal today. DD3 had a (short lived) meltdown.

The waiter walked past and I guess was trying to pacify her but in doing so he stroked the side of her face and sort of tickled under her nose, so quite close to her mouth. It just went on for a few seconds but seemed like ages. She was on DH's lap and he didn't react.

It has freaked me out so much. I have OCD so I'm really struggling with it.

Would anyone else agree this was an odd thing to do? Should I be worried about her catching something or is that just my anxiety?

Odd thing to do, but also odd that you think she's caught something...

AnyoneSomeone · 23/12/2024 17:04

She won't have caught anything.

Stichintime · 23/12/2024 17:06

She's most at risk of 'catching' anxiety.

WolfFoxHare · 23/12/2024 17:06

You need to talk to a medical professional about your anxiety.

cariadlet · 23/12/2024 17:07

It's an unusual thing to do but he was just trying to distract your dd. He didn't hurt her and she won't have caught anything.

Anoisagusaris · 23/12/2024 17:07

Not an odd thing at all. He was being nice. You should get your anxiety treated before it transfers to your child.

SoupDragon · 23/12/2024 17:07

Should I be worried about her catching something or is that just my anxiety?

It's absolutely just your anxiety.

Sunshineitis · 23/12/2024 17:09

Thank you that's reassuring if 100% people think it's just me!

Well let’s hope she doesn’t catch your anxiety.

Howbeit · 23/12/2024 17:20

I could maybe understand it if a total stranger, but actually, as it was a waiter serving food, so very likely to have clean hands in any case. So yes, definitely just anxiety and I'd maybe look into CBT. I've had this, it really helped.

It’s definitely your OCD talking rather than there being any real risk to your daughter. She’ll be absolutely fine.

Are you getting any help with your OCD?

Stillherestillpraying · 23/12/2024 17:31

This is disturbing.

Please say you are getting help for your MH issues.

Well let’s hope she doesn’t catch your anxiety.

There’s no need to be unkind. OP has told us she has OCD and is struggling.

Beezknees · 23/12/2024 17:32

Bit of an odd thing to do but yes I agree with everyone else, she will not catch anything. Please do not worry about that.

Iloveeverycat · 23/12/2024 17:42

She will be fine. Was your husband there too you didn't mention what he thought.
