Alexas in kids bedrooms

Do you have alexas in kids bedrooms? What do they use them for? Can you restrict one from talking to another?

I'm hoping they will stop arguments or yelling between rooms, but perhaps they will cause more!!

Yeah you can mute it but then it isn’t working as it can’t hear your voice to work. Otherwise it’s always listening. Always. You do know that right? Even tech experts say not to have it in your bedroom.

Well mine works fine and does store conversations and doesn't listen in unless you use the wake up word.

I don't mind if it's heard on audio files if I farted several times last night, or if it heard me talking about my neighbours or what to have for tea tomorrow night? All very boring stuff. Nothing top secret.

Teens don't use one in their room. Younger DC do for audiobooks and music.

Using a smart phone isn't any better tbh...

Both my children have had them since they were little. They listen to audio books at bedtime to fall asleep too and brown noise.

Brown noise?!!

That’s the thing - yes it does.

How do you think it can listen for the wake up word if it isn’t listening for it?

My children all have them in their bedrooms and they are very attached to them. I do have mixed feelings about them with regard to data privacy. My DH is mad into tech so I lost this battle.

They use them to switch on their lights (they have rainbow smart lightbulbs so can change up the colours) they check out the weather. Use it to help with spellings when they are writing. They listen to music, podcasts and audiobooks. They also call me on them if I'm not home. I use them to tell them to come down for dinner.

It's probably the most positive tech we have in the house!

Deeper than white noise, perfect to sleep to. Cancels out all other sounds.

No. My son deserves privacy from multinational companies in his bedroom.

This. 💯
