Can anyone help me find cheaper gas /electric. I know I'm meant to compare usage from the company I'm with to others I'm thinking about . But because of learning difficulties/dyslexia I find it near impossible to cross reference. I know what I Need to do but it does not sink in .

I have included a picture of my watage usage

Can anyone help me with my gas /electric

The problem is it all depends on what postcode you’re in I know very interesting. It can be cheaper in different postcodes so to do a proper comparison. You need to know how much you are paying a unit for each individual item and how much is your standing charge on both electric and gas then you can do a comparison at the minute. I am with eon next they are pretty good but again do some comparisons yourself. It’s quite simple but you do need that information. I’ve just told you.

Everything you just wrote are the things I find impossible to do. Because I get lost. Which is why I asked for help 😭. But f the postcode matters I guess that stops it anyway.

Prices are fairly similar between different providers at the moment so you are unlikely to save much by switching. You are using a lot of electricity though, you might be better trying to reduce this if you can.

All you need to do is on that statement. It should say how much per unit you are paying put for electricity and gas and what the standing rate is that should all be on the statement or underwear. It says tariff and yes you do need your postcode, but you can put that in to something yourself to find out.

Is there a bit on your bill that gives your annual consumption for gas and electricity as that the figures you need?
Is your provider offering a fixed rate at a cheaper price?

SugarCookieMonster · 23/12/2024 13:22

Martin Lewis has a calculator that you might find useful here. You add in the bits you’ve posted and your area and it can tell you if it’s worth switching. If that’s not possible, and you’re based in England or Wales, Scope offer free advice on energy including bills and switching.

guestusername · 23/12/2024 13:22

Go on Martin Lewis’ Cheap Energy Club. You’ll be able to input everything you’ve got there and it’ll tell you if you can get cheaper energy with a different company. It will also guide you through the switching process step by step

Something does not seem right with my electric October it was 104.29 November was 126.34 and dec 148.20. September was 87.46 aug was 83.63

I don't get it in doing nothing different at all . Like how can August be 83.63 during the school holidays all the kids home and now it's 148.20

OP posts:

From that bill your charges are:

Electricity:
25.746p/kwh and
44.002p/day standing charge

Gas:
6.323p/kwh
34.58p/day standing charge

You're looking for rates that are better than the above. Your current supplier might offer a fixed rate that is cheaper than the above.

dementedpixie · 23/12/2024 13:26

The price cap rose in October so that will explain why your bills rose as providers could charge more for the same amount of usage

You used just under 500 units of a electricity on that bill - almost 17 units a day. That's a lot! Do you have electric heaters on? An immersion heater left on constantly?

The price cap increasing will not solely explain why your bill is so high.

I would check your smart meter readings are correct and if they are then turn off everything in the house. Check that the smart meter shows you're not drawing any power. If you are then there will be something left plugged on. Turn them back on one at a time and check your smart meter display to see whether anything is consuming a lot. Your in home display should show the amount you're currently using so see how this changes with different appliances. I'd also check the before and after amounts when you use the oven, dishwasher etc. See whether you can pin it down to any particular appliances.

Bjorkdidit · 23/12/2024 18:05

The variation across the country on electricity cost per unit is small and even tariffs don't vary a huge amount, maybe around 10% at most, they're all around the price cap rates.

What's making your bill high is your high electricity usage. The fact that it's steadily increased over the last few months suggests that it could be lights, or possibly a plug in heater. Do you have lots of energy hungry spotlights?

No i have not changed anything since I have lived here.

I'm in a 5 bed with 5 of us living here . Nothing has changed

But are you using your lights more over the last few months because it's darker in December than it is in August? Some spotlights can use a lot of electricity.

Your numbers:
August 83.63
September 87.46
October 104.29
November 126.34
December 148.20

Can you look back to see if the units used follow the season over the spring, summer and last winter?
