Do you get more charitable at Christmas?

Whether that is giving change to someone in the street, donating to a church, sending money to a charity…does Christmas seem to make you more generous towards needy causes? Or not?

No, Christmas makes me poorer and therefore more stingy.

However, once January is out of the way I want to reassess my finances. There’s no way I actually need every penny.

Yes, Dh and I usually give a lump sum to a charity at Christmas, between 300 and 1k depending on end year bonuses. We tend to rotate between a few causes. Dh earns a lot, it's easy be generous when you can afford it.

No.

And I don't believe people who chirp "I'm not sending cards this year, I'm making a donation to charity instead..."

ShortyShorts · 22/12/2024 22:57

Yes, tipped the Morrisons delivery man a fiver today and I rarely tip anyone.

Mind you, it was my DH's money 🤭🤣

Yes - every day this month so far I've done a pay it forward or random.
act of kindness, because I can.

This is the only place I've divulged this as its anonymous but it was important to do this without Facebook or Insta being involved.

We give to the same charities every Christmas.

NewName24 · 22/12/2024 23:27

No, I have standing orders so the same all year round.

However, there are a massive amount of people that do.
Foodbanks get inundated, and people send donations at a time they are thinking about giving, and there are lots of charities that get a BIG % of their income all arrive in December.

I donate regularly, not just Christmas.
But I dont give to street beggars, chuggers or buy a "funny/student" magazine sellers. ( Or the rspca)

MumOfOneAllAlone · 23/12/2024 00:16

Yeah, 100%

I've bought a chocolate bar for our postie and hopefully will get a yule log for our neighbours if they're in stock, fingers crossed

This year we took part in the Australian Reverse Advent Calendar box appeal. It didn’t really affect our budget but did make us realise we need to be doing more to support charitable causes.

In our small town 427 boxes were filled and distributed to families in need.

This is just so lovely and thoughtful of you. Xxxx

No because I'm pretty skint this time of year
