One of my children do their GCSE's next year. Are we OK to book a holiday in July before schools break up?

They aren't expected to be in school are they?

I cannot see the attendance law allows for an early finish to be authorised though. They are on roll so I think school has an issue with allowing mass unauthorised holidays.

They are not unauthorised. You can legally leave school.

Our Y11s are X coded from after the last GCSE contingency day and remain on roll, just not required to be in school. Our pupils do have an induction day for Sixth Form in July though, so maybe check where ever your child is heading next.

We are also planning a July holiday this year after GCSEs if we can get a time that fits around things.
