Chillblains

Once they start is there any way of helping them heal faster?

I am so fed up. I wear socks all day and then my feet will randomly heat up and thats when the itching starts

For example today I wore my thick thermal socks as I am out all day. Sat down to eat and they're itching again.

At this rate i'd rather keep my feet cold as it's impossible to not have them heat up fast due to my crap circulation! Really suffering now :(

Have you tried Snowfire? It's ointment for chillblains. Calamine and Witch Hazel also helps with the itching too. Rubbing Lanolin cream into your feet can also help retain body heat. Personally I always reach for the Snowfire.

Awful annual sufferer here, drs couldn't suggest anything to help so did my own research as nothing I tried helped. Anyway, found an Australian website that recommended Hirudoid cream, which you can buy here from pharmacies - this worked better than snowfire and the like, but still not enough for me so I came across articles which said Nifedipine can help. I was desperate (all toes really painful and swollen, have blistered in the past etc) and my GP agreed to prescribe them and oh my god they worked!!! I take them as soon as its a noticeable drop in temperature for a few months. I cant tell you what game changer for winter these are if you suffer, such blessed relief.

Thank you so much for the replies. I will try to get an appt with the GP for Nifedipine. Especially as I cant even wear my shoes due to the swelling. Its awful. I have tried Hirudroid as well as Snowfire but sadly no relief :(

Dc has suffered for years and things we used were hydrocortisone cream, fucidin cream, antibiotics, antihistamine, aveno.
Gp spoke to a rheumatology consultant (covid lock down) and got permission to start nifedipine in January 2021 and it's been like a miracle drug. Had the odd itch but never developed any further takes them from October to march/April depending on temperature. Rheumatology see her every 6 months as she's a child but they are very happy with her. Definitely seek advice don't suffer.

I’ve suffered since a child and just use the boots chillblaines cream. It is like magic.
dh gets them on his hands so steals mine now.

Thanks all. I managed to get a urea cream which seemed to have helped. Got it more for the dry skin but they're not as bad since using that twice a day. Also put on thinner socks. The only flare up I had was after a shower but it quickly calmed down after letting my feet cool down. Will look into getting an appt with the GP for a long term solution if they can help. Appreciate all the advice!

Tiger Balm or Vicks helps mine.

Hope you can get a prescription OP, you should start to notice the difference within a couple of days from memory. Good luck.

Hi all

Thanks for all your advice. GP said she needs to speak to a senior Dr to see whether he's happy to prescribe Nifedipine. If not they can give another solution, I did mention I have tried various ointments so hopefully I will know today whether or not they will give it to me
