Have any of you switched styles from a thin metal frame to a thicker plastic frame? I'm wondering how easily you adapted to being able to see so much of the frame in your periphery vision?

Super easily, I wore thin metal frames for 10+ years then switched to thicker plastic and I don’t think I even noticed it after a day, maybe two.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/12/2024 10:01

Very easily. I far prefer the plastic ones- metal ones used to make my face sore!

Seeline · 22/12/2024 10:03

I don't like the plastic frames - not having the separate nose clips makes my nose sweaty and sore

Mumdiva99 · 22/12/2024 10:03

Usually my plastic ones are larger than my wire ones. So no issues.

Mintearo7 · 22/12/2024 10:03

Not long at all - plastic ones are a bit more practical overall.

PoodlesRUs · 22/12/2024 10:03

Seeing the frame to the side makes my eyes water and feel almost itchy. I'm hoping it passes with exposure. Maybe I'll introduce them more gradually

Yes it was definitely a 'thing' at first. I remember commenting to a friend that I may have made a mistake in choosing that frame. However, after a couple of weeks I'd adjusted and realised that it was no longer an issue.

I'm curious, how so?

My frame shape and thickness is never razzle from one pair to the next. We do adapt quickly.

Razzle? Such a great typo that I had to leave it in!

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/12/2024 10:06

I'm wearing plastic frames now and on reading this thread have thought about it and realised I can see the edge of the frame, but I had to deliberately look / think about it. Doesn't occur to me at all day to day.

Lifestooshort71 · 22/12/2024 10:09

I tried metal frames for the first time recently but not overly happy. My long fringe has thinned considerably but bits seemed to catch in the metal hinged bit so now even thinner! I'm battling on as varifocals so not cheap but am going to buy an online plastic pair as well.....which I'll probably wear if ok. I also like coloured frames and have quite a selection, metal seems boring in comparison.

I've had tortoiseshell, purple and blue metal frames!

How chunky are the frames you have chosen?? I don't notice the frames, I am only bothered about how much of my vision is outside the frame ie the blurry amount round the edge.

If you're very short sighted the lenses are heavier so plastic frames are usually more comfortable, is what I was told last time.

jellycat · 22/12/2024 11:39

Personally, I prefer to have nose pads so I dislike plastic ones for that reason. Like a PP, I find them sweaty. You might find that’s more of an issue in the summer.

The top corners are really noticeable in my peripheral vision but it might just take time. They aren't that chunky but I've always had very thin frames.

Mine are much chunkier.. Not having the nose bit was life changing!! No wobbly /falling off parts! Have worn chunky for quite a few years... Now 53 and still have them.

I like the look of the big plastic ones but they don’t have the separate nose clip thingies, and the integrated plastic ones just slip down. So sticking with the old metal frames.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 22/12/2024 17:59

As I have ddogs and dc I get the legs /arms quite curled over my ears!! They never move or dig in!

YearsofYears · 22/12/2024 18:19

I think it's easier to switch to plastic than the other way round.
Have switched back to some metal frames recently and it took awhile. They initially felt tiny and odd on the nose but I love them now.

These...

I wanted these but was told by the optician that they were no use due to the positioning of my eyes within the frame - I was gutted!

I have metal reading glasses & they feel so heavy & give me a sore nose but they don't gave nose pads the metal is shaped same as plastic ones.
