Diabetes help?

Husbands just started DPP-4 inhibitors a couple of weeks ago due to poor control, been on Metformin for about 7 years. Been feeling off for a day or so, checked sugars and have very high readings but on waking (both overnight and naps), average of 28, but then settles to 8 or so.

How worried should we be? Plan to see GP Monday but just wanted to see if anyone could help with some experience.

Thanks

28 mmol? That is extremely high. I would probably not wait until Monday tbh before seeing someone

Go to a walk in clinic first thing in the morning, 28 mmol is dangerously high.

You've probably already seen this OP but as others have said your DH should most likely be seen today, as there is a danger of ketoacidosis developing.

Is he eating/drinking much?

Thanks all. They were settled this morning. He a very stubborn man and does not take his health seriously so won't go unless desperate 🤦

We are checking regularly, if they go up again I'll drag him to the walk in.

Thank you. It's tough being the only sensible one around here!

If he’s not willing to see someone today, would he consider doing things to help lower it naturally today? Eat low carb foods today and go for a walk after waking anything etc. Might help bring it down a bit.

His readings are normal today, he's drinking lots of water, eating sensibly and I'm watching him closely. It's very frustrating but he keeps saying they are fine now so no urgency.

GP unconcerned about the levels, has asked for some blood tests. He had already stopped the new meds and she agreed. He is not right in himself. Will keep an eye on him
