My flat is too warm, I thought thermostat wasn't working have replaced batteries. It says temp of flat 4°c higher than where I have thermostat set at and heating is still on, I don't know if I should turn off at boiler I don't want an unnecessarily high bill! I've worked hard to get direct debit down.

Can anyone help please? I'm in a flat on 2nd floor so flat below and above so well insulated.

Don't wanna cause pipe issues either though and advice is 15°c is lowest temp you should have at but then if flat supposedly at 19°c am I ok to turn heating off?

As I said REALLY don't want to incur a high bill!

What happens if you set the thermostat lower?

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/12/2024 10:43

What have you set the thermostat to? The heating should turn off when that temperature is achieved. The weather is currently much too warm for frozen pipes to be a consideration.

If I set it MUCH lower eventually heating goes off but I'm worried about keeping everything running well

Even in Scotland your pipes aren't going to freeze a little below 15 degrees (which is practically summer in the Highlands!).

Do you have a thermometer?

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/12/2024 11:46

Do you understand how a wall thermostat works? If you set it to 18°C, it will tell the boiler to run until the temperature in the immediate vicinity of the thermostat reaches 18°C, then it will tell the boiler to stop. Now, the radiators will still be hot, so the location of the thermostat, and the other rooms, might continue to heat up a little. However, if the property ends up much warmer than what the thermostat is set to, it may be faulty.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 21/12/2024 11:46

Is the thermostat fixed to the wall or is a digital one you can move around? You might find it better to put a moveable one in a different place as it may be taking the reading from a colder part of the flat. Do try turning the temperature down a couple of degrees to see if that makes a difference.

dementedpixie · 21/12/2024 11:48

Is it gas or electricity?
Just turn the thermostat down until the flat is at the temperature you want

Graphista · 21/12/2024 15:28

It's supposed to be wall mounted but the wall mounting is broken so it sits on the hall table.

Yea I know it's SUPPOSED to do the heating as when the temp drops below thermostat setting heating kicks in.

What's happening is when I turn thermostat down the heating goes off but as soon as I stop touching the thermostat the heating comes on again

Gas

No thermometer just check the thermostat maybe need to get a thermometer

I've just turned the heating off manually at the boiler and I'm not even sure that's working!

Do you have a hot water cylinder or is it a combi boiler? We had a faulty diverter valve and my heating was going on full blast when it was supposed to be off. Maybe needs someone out to look at it

Graphista · 23/12/2024 23:17

Combi boiler

Yea I think it does but I rent and it's almost Xmas so popping it on/off at boiler for now and will chase with landlord in new year. Annoying timing! Thanks everyone
