I'm trying to organise my shopping and I'm not wanting to buy lots of stuff to end up wasting it but I'm a bit stumped as to what sorts of things to buy to see us through to Christmas

Just normal every day food really, planning a cottage pie, pasta of some sort, a curry and a stir fry over the next few days.

Smarshian · 20/12/2024 20:29

Paella, chilli, pasta.
Soup and quiche for lunches, or sandwiches.
normal stuff really.

VacuumPacked · 20/12/2024 20:43

Over the weekend, bacon and egg with variants, baked potatoes, odd bits of salad, bottom of the fridge soup, cheese sandwiches, cheese on toast, eggs on toast, toast, then Tuesday, glorious take away.

Are you being rock and roll with your lasagna for Xmas dinner? I love that! I'm not even a big turkey fan at all

I'm by myself and I don't really have Christmas, as such. It'll be a regular home made lasagne but maybe with a Cheddar cheese sauce rather than Bechamel. We have had a thread about lasagne on here this week.

steeringwheelonfire · 20/12/2024 20:54

Sounds amazing! I love a good lasagna ( extra brownie points for coleslaw and garlic bread)

Pasta and garlic bread tomorrow

Spaghetti Bolognese Sunday

Korean rice bowl Monday

We usually get Indian takeaway Christmas eve.

Roast beef for Christmas day..

I'm off work until the 2nd Jan. I don't plan on cooking at all really after the 25th 😆

TheTecknician · 20/12/2024 20:56

Just some (buttered) ciabatta. I love garlic bread but it makes me thirsty and keeps me awake at night.

HermoinePotter · 20/12/2024 20:56

Saturday - Chicken stir fry
Sunday - Venison and feta salad
Monday - Roasted veg curry
Tuesday - Meat/cheese/pickles etc platter
Wednesday - Out for Christmas dinner
Thursday - Carrot and cashew roast

OppsUpsSide · 20/12/2024 20:56

We’re having chilli nacho’s and baked cheeses tomorrow, cooked breakfast and out for dinner Sunday, almond croissants then gammon and macaroni cheese Monday, out for food Christmas Eve

HermoinePotter · 20/12/2024 20:58

I probably should have explained in my previous post, we eat our main meal at lunchtime.

Behindthethymes · 20/12/2024 20:59

It feels completely unreasonable that I’m expected to cook Christmas dinner and produce food several times a day, every day before and after too.

Middlemarch123 · 20/12/2024 21:00

Usual stuff that we normally have but Indian Takeaway on the Big Day, will time it so we can eat it in front of Gavin & Stacey. Might even go for Smithy’s order!
What we won’t be eating is turkey, that’s for sure.

TheTecknician · 20/12/2024 22:49

Ordinary staples like eggs, cheese, tinned tuna, frankfurters, bacon, muffins for toasting, butter. Eggs can be scrambled and served on toasted muffins, with or without bacon. Tuna and cheese melt muffins too. Frankfurters in bridge rolls. And so on. Anything not used can be stored in a cupboard e.g. tuna or put in the freezer, including cheese and butter. No waste!

samedifferent · 20/12/2024 22:51

I'm going to a hotel, for the first time in decades this isn't something I have to think about.
It is very relaxing!

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 20/12/2024 22:53

we don’t really eat lunch so these are dinners
Unsure tomorrow , probably burgers
chicken fajitas Sunday
chicken and chorizo pasta on Monday
Chinese takeaway on Christmas Eve

TheTecknician · 20/12/2024 23:07

Whatever anybody eats or doesn't eat. It's just food. No haute cuisine or Michelin nonsense. Therefore, no rules or prizes or judgement. No-one needs that shit.

Enterthedragonqueen · 20/12/2024 23:44

I'm making a list of everything in my fridge/ cupboards and planning a menu around that. I want to use up the surplus before buying more food. This will save me money as well as time and unnecessary food wastage.

PokerFriedDips · 20/12/2024 23:47

I've been cooking double the last few nights so we have a chilli, a moroccan tagine and a buckwheat bake in the fridge as well as a couple of pizzas, bits for a stirfry and some sausages and chips in the freezer. I don't intend to do proper cooking again except for Christmas Day meal until about New Years Eve.

JumpstartMondays · 20/12/2024 23:54

Throw it all in one pan gnocchi
Chicken tray bake
Curry

...plus the leftovers, should take us up to Xmas day 🤞

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/12/2024 23:57

Tomorrow we’re having bacon, Brie baguettes with chilli jam for lunch, chicken casserole for dinner, we’re out with friends on Sunday, Monday it’s just me so I’ll have something leftover - possibly chilli made into enchiladas. Tuesday we’re at my sisters for party food, Christmas Day is the usual overbearing, Boxing Day will be ham, egg and chips.

Lunches will be the usual combination of soup, sandwiches, noodles.
