Shopping in Aldi today. Guy in front of me was paying for a few things using an Aldi gift card - only when it was totalled up it was 89p over the amount of credit he had, so he offered to put it all back. Checkout operator told him not to worry, and then she paid the 89p for him, using her own debit card.

I thought that was lovely - and wondered how many times she was using her own money like that?

Let’s all go down the Strand… 🍌

timetodecide2345 · 21/12/2024 02:24

Ignore @Hskatkat . She's obviously having a bad time of it.

Thank goodness for kind spontaneous acts. We all need them at the moment.

Hskatkat · 21/12/2024 02:29

@timetodecide2345 I'm having a lovely time thanks , popped to Booths today had a nice pootle round and bought some lovely coffee beans I can highly recommend.

Haribosweets · 21/12/2024 03:56

I was in a coffee type cafe in a shopping centre (Costa or something similar) and bought 3 pre packed sandwiches, crisps, cakes and drinks. Probably at leat £20 worth and the young bloke behind till said not to worry about paying. I hesitated as nothing like that happens to me and I was trying to scan my card to pay but there was no amount on the card reader. I eventually said a million thank yous as a queue was building up behind me and went and sat down. I did wonder if I was the only one, or did he do it to the whole queue, was it his last day and didn't care etc 🤣

Why did she have her debit card with her on the shop floor?
Having worked retail previously I would have got either sacked or at least a huge bollocking as cash handling job you should not have either cash or cards about your person.

Well, that sucked the fun out of the thread didn't it?
Hope that made you feel lovely and Christmas-y.

So your man can't count, & someone on minimum wage paid for him?

Great story @BIWI

Someone really pissed on your chips, didn't they.

Fizzyq · 21/12/2024 06:24

Bloody hell. You might want to prepare yourself for some visiting ghosts, @Hskatkat

Lovely thread @BIWI (just drop engaging with ‘you know who’…not worth it)

Through the kindness of strangers on this forum, a replacement mug was found for my elderly DM and transported across from the US back here…

When an HGV driver to our right on a roundabout ( so had right of way) held up the traffic behind him to let my Fathers' hearse go through/

It made me feel like my Dad's last journey mattered to this unknown man behind the wheel of a huge truck and made a painful day a tiny bit lighter .

This has made me tear up 🥹

I remember your thread - but didn't realise it had been resolved so well! That's lovely to hear.

Was negotiating a short flight of steps in a Tube station recently, while carrying a suitcase. Some young guys were passing by, on the steps - late teens, early twenties. One of them offered to carry the case down for me. I was very grateful to him. A random act of kindness that was very much appreciated.

MrsGusset · 22/12/2024 14:14

Driving into town yesterday I saw ahead of me a couple of boys (about 10 or 11 yrs) pressing the button at a pedestrian crossing. I braked and came to a halt as the light turned red.

As the boys crossed the road they stopped in front of my car & turned to face me. One of them did a dainty curtsy while the other made an elaborate bow. We all laughed and I gave them the thumbs up because it was so spontaneous and they both had great big happy grins on their faces.

Not exactly an act of kindness but a funny moment that lifted my spirits on an otherwise gloomy day.

ohtowinthelottery · 22/12/2024 14:42

DH has just been kind to a (Christmas Casual) Postman. He was across the road trying to work out where a particular house number was. Whoever numbered the newer houses in our street was clearly on drugs, so we knew the poor chap stood no chance without help - and as it's blowing a gale here, there's no one else around. DH opened our front door, and put him out of his misery by asking him what number he was looking for and directing him there. The house he was looking for doesn't even face into our street even though it shares our road name.

Staff in Aldi are not on minimum wage.

And? You are very abrasive and aggressive. You make presumptions and don't like being called out on them. You have tried to hijack a thread about lovely positive things with you abhorrent negativity.
I truly suggest that you stop and think about how you with people, and why you wish to loss on their strawberries.

@BIWI it's a lovely idea for a thread. 😊

Hskatkat · 22/12/2024 15:08

I had left you "@' me @StMarie4me
Also what now about strawberries?!
My comment was true, as I stated before.
I do lots of nice things and have seen other ppl pay for someone else shopping. but again don't feel the need to start threads.

On a train down from Scotland to the Midlands, was really busy. The refreshment trolley could not pass down the carriages so the woman was just hanging around by the carriage doors.

I wandered down for a cuppa and chocolate and we had a bit of a chat. She was bored because no-one had come down.

Anyway, she refused to take any money from me as I'd chatted to her.

On holiday in Cyprus

We took the hire care back at 4am and the petrol station self serve wasn't working

We just figured we pay the €20 charge as was less hassle than finding alternative at 4 am and with a flight to catch

We got there (off site and they shuttle you back and forth) and they guy said don't worry I'll drive you to airport in car and we can stop at the other on the way.

Until another panicking couple turn up and demand to be taken to the airport as they were late (tbf it was clock-change day and confusing- turns out they were an hour early)

He asks if I have cash and I say a tuneup hit maybe 8 euros

He said "don't worry I'll pay and next time someone is need you help them"

I still need to pay it forward!

I was a bit traumatised thinking he had scammed me somehow as he had my credit card details but no he was just a nice guy. ( it was hectic and early and unfamiliar)

helpmyback · 22/12/2024 17:33

The other couple relevant as he need to use the mini bus rather than the hire car

You don't feel the need to start a thread, but do feel the need to repeatedly post on one. How odd.

I had an accident on Thursday and face-palmed onto the pavement. A man crossed the road to help me, called DH and waited with me until he arrived.

Earlier this year Wilf was coming home alone from the NTA Awards. He was on the tube heading for the last train home from Victoria when his tube train stopped at Canary Wharf as someone was unwell. He immideately called me as he was panicking. Two lovely ladies took l charge. They took him off the tube train. Onto another line and got him to Victoria. They even took him to the guard on the train platform. I spoke to.them.via video on Wilfs phone and thanked them very much.
