Found some very old premium bonds

Sorting through my late mum's paperwork and found some very old premium bonds of my dad's (also deceased). However they were divorced and he remarried. She is still alive but we don't get on. My dad left his half of their house etc to me in trust.

Not sure what to do????

I found some very old paper ones in dad's things.
Either I’m going to be £15 richer or maybe they won something 🤞
I think you have to write to them with the numbers. Must get round to it

We found some on our names from my Dad they were bought in the 60's. Took forever to get them to change them to our married names and open the account.
Call NS&I Here and they'll send you forms to fill out to get them changed to your name.Once it's all done you can also check if there are any unclaimed wins on the numbers.

I found some that I thought I'd cashed in years and years ago. Turned out they were still valid.

I was thrilled and immediately looked it up to see if I'd any sort of win in that time. Not a penny. It is disheartening because my Mum, who doesn't have many, wins small amounts a couple of times year.

Unless they are significant in value there is very little chance you will have won something, but you can check on the website. I am not sure you would even be allowed to claim the prize as dead people aren't allowed to hold bonds. There is some grace period I think.

I don't know how you would get them changed into a new name. I guess you would have to write to them and ask what is required and then they become part of the estate and should be shared out as the will stipulates. if they are valuable you might require a probate certificate. But I am sure the website will have all the info.
