Can you leave a job off your CV?

A few months ago, I started a job which lasted two weeks (I chose to leave). It was not good, manager had told me stuff about the role that wasn't true, working patterns were not what I was told they'd be, etc. I made an excuse because I couldn't be bothered to argue about it. I'm wondering if when I next apply for a job, I'd need to put them down? Once I applied for a bank (got the job, didn't take it) and the man said you need to make sure that you have put every job on your CV as we do background checks. This was before the job I left but I'm just wondering if this is true in every case?

Your P45 will show your previous employers, and the man in the bank was right. Some industries do extremely thorough checks for security reasons. There's no harm, providing the rest of your employment history is sound, in leaving it off the paper CV and mentioning it when you get the job.

Yes you can. It would show on your P45 however, if it was your most recent job. And you’d have to explain the gap in your background check and provide proof (depending on the thoroughness)

Lots of people have short hop jobs. It’s fine to explain it just wasn’t as you expected / didn’t work out. You would be unlikely to be judged harshly for one short job.

Depends on the job. The p45 shows the last job/benefits so as long as you have either worked another role or claimed jsa/uc it won't show up there. On a background check it may show but really depends so much on how thorough, a bank yes as they have to extensively check staff whereas for jobs like mine, it wouldn't show as I have an enhanced DBS but no other background checks

Would it still be an issue if you had been self employed for four years since then?
