Anglian water refund

Hi,

I usually pay £100 a month to Anglian water (the amount the told me to).

I get my bills every January and June, theyre usually £500 each.

I have noticed I’m £400 in credit today so I called and asked them for a refund. I later received a voicemail from Anglian water to say that they need to do a bill up to date first to see if they need to deduct anything from the refund to cover the last 5 months. Even though my bill isn’t due until January?

does this seem very cheeky to you? I’m a little annoyed that they won’t refund me the money I have overpaid and instead are trying to bill me early to keep it.

Hmm, good luck with that. AW wrote to us 2 years ago as we were in credit and were sending us a cheque for £90. Still waiting, chased, no joy!
They reduced our payment to £6 per month, then out payment up to higher than before.

Their theory will be that as you have an upcoming bill, most/all of that money will cover what you’ve used since the last bill.

Essentially you’ve used the service as you pay as you go, and the most accurate way to work out how much they can give you is to bill you with a meter read.

If they bill you up to date and it covers that, you’ll have a much smaller bill in January.

I work in this every day - so many people don’t understand that having a credit isn’t that you’ve overpaid. Them telling you to pay £100 is to build a credit as you go until they can review this. But this isn’t obvious on the bill, I know.

i have just received my new bill (2 months early) and I owe them money after they deducted the credit. I think what’s frustrating is that they agreed to refund me then billed me and left me a voicemail to say that.
