Looking for inspiration and like to add a book to Xmas gifts. What's popular this year?

I have bought mine the second and third books in the slow horses series, Dead Lions and Real Tigers I think they are called

Planesmistakenforstars · 20/12/2024 13:47

The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman (for my dad though.)

Lucked · 20/12/2024 13:54

By my DH but for my brothers

Lonesome Dove - Larry McMurty an oldie but he had mentioned in passing that he keeps reading excellent reviews of it.

Titanium Noir - Nick Harkaway sci fi detective novel written by John Le Carrés son. Should be right up his street.

A Man and His Watch. DH collects watches. Thought it would be a change from another watch 🤦🏼‍♀️

What's Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, Its Cast and Crew, and Its Enduring Legacy of Service. It’s an official behind the scenes book.

Ohhh some fab recommendations on here, shame it’s too late now. Bought the next book in the Scott Mariani / Ben Hope series, there’s 25+ books so will keep gift ideas up 😂

kindlyensure · 20/12/2024 14:33

DH is getting 'In One Ear' by Simon Raymonde (the story of the Cocteau Twins).

Cillian Murphy calls it 'beautiful, insightful and honest' which is enough of a recommendation for me!

chubo · 20/12/2024 15:06

My husband is getting the Faber Book of Reportage and Wading in Waist-High Water: The Lyrics of Fleet Foxes.

Very tempted to get him the West Wing book mentioned above though...
And the Rory Stewart tbh Grin

Dontwearmysocks · 20/12/2024 15:09

Did no one read this post correctly???

Conclave by Robert Harris, as he wants to see the film too…

Proteinbananas · 20/12/2024 15:29

There's 34 replies and only a few have missed the book bit (I'm not sure how though as it's right there in the title).

I forgot I also got one of those Haynes Manuals for the Space Station for my dad

justasking111 · 20/12/2024 15:32

The new Diddly Squat Farm book because he enjoyed the series

FrenchFancie · 20/12/2024 15:33

The private eye annual, but that’s possibly a bit niche. DH does read much fiction to be honest, so he’s hard to buy for…

Crikeyalmighty · 20/12/2024 15:34

@squashyhat that's a brilliant book- I enjoyed it too

Jingleberryalltheway · 20/12/2024 15:35

Rory Stewart autobiography. He is no normally a biography kind of guy but I like to get a random book which I think he would be interested in.

slightlydistrac · 20/12/2024 15:36

DH is getting 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius.

I

Karla's choice - a follow on from the John le Carrie novels

A book about Noel Cronin the guy behind talking pictures

ItGhoul · 20/12/2024 16:24

DP only reads on his Kindle so I don't buy him fiction or long-form non-fiction books as gifts. I do buy him illustrated / coffee table type books though and this year have got him one about historic sports venues and an art book about travel advertising and maps.

His favourite authors of fiction are Julian Barnes, Magnus Mills, Ismail Kadare, Michel Houellebecq and Jonathan Coe.
