Water from dryer - useful?

We have the sort of dryer that collects the water in a drawer. I often wounder what I could use it for (apart from the garden during a fry spell), rayher than just pouring it down the sink. What do you use the water for, if anything?

I used to put it on the house plants but after about a week realised just send it back into the water cycle and it can be used for multitude other things anyway.

I save the water to use in the iron and also use it for watering house plants.

I have wondered what to use dehumidifier water for.

It might be good for plants, ironing and cleaning as it will be free from limescale/impurities so will not leave as bad water marks.

Might be OK for stuff like fishtanks or ponds too as will not contain chemicals that affect fish that may be found in tapwater.

Probably not good for drinking though as it will not be sterilised. I suppose you could boil it and drink it.

Good for use in steam irons

Poggishairtufts · 18/12/2024 16:34

My dehumidifier instructions said it can be used for plants as long as you're not eating them. I empty my tank from my condenser dryer into my washing machine when I do a load.

I used to keep a bucket that I filled with water that wasn't drinkable that was used to flush the loo after a wee. I don't have any houseplants or bother ironing anything though, but those sound like potentially easier options.

As others have said it is good for steam irons. That's what we used ours for when I had a dryer.

This is what I do as well, also saves a little money by not buying “ironing water”

I read that it isn't good for steam irons, as it contains impurities such as detergent, dye, fabric softener, lint.

I used to just pour into the washing machine after it finished "filling" to top it up a little, as they use so little water these days.

Now I have it hooked up to drain into the waste pipe, so it doesn't collect any more.

It's weirdly good to clean windows with.

I found that with dehumidifier water. Because there are no dissolved salts in it is does not leave marks when you use it to wipe down shower screens etc. Also good for glass hob tops.

We always use the water from the dehumidifiers to fill the loo cisterns. Useful if you're on a water meter or don't have mains water.

Great, thank you all so much! I'm glad I asked!
