Avanti Train Managers to strike

Saw something on the BBC the other day that the Train Managers have turned down the employer’s latest offer. I think they were planning to strike on Sundays at first but I guess this could then have a knock-on effect on Monday morning travel..

if you are planning to travel in the near future, you might want to check the latest info..

Hopefully it will be resolved soon!

Doubtful! But loving your optimism!
I travel the west coast route regularly, and it's always a challenge.
Having said that, they seem to be a shite company to work for, and if you chat to staff, it's unsurprising they are taking action.

Avanti have been rubbish for years, especially on Sundays, but this is just next level entitled. What these idiots don't understand is that they will just make it harder for the public to use trains, revenue will decline and then they'll start losing their jobs. Utterly dim.

I have no love for Avanti at all but as I can understand it they agreed to pay £600 per day for the drivers to work on Sundays.

and now the train managers want extra money for Sundays too. It doesn’t take an idiot to work out that if they were willing to pay that much for the drivers to work on Sundays then the other staff would sure kick off

but WHY ON EARTH are Sundays just not normal contracted days, like they are in many industries? Hopefully someone can explain this to me. It’s not just an avanti thing, here in the north west northern trains have pretty much given us running on Sundays, because the staff are not contractually obliged to work on Sundays and in the past they relied on goodwill. Which is now spent. WTF.

I’m glad in my working days it was Virgin who ran the franchise. I dread making any plans to go to London now which I do want to do from time to time.

I don’t understand the working practices on the railways either!

I’m old enough to remember British Rail and I don’t remember Sunday being such an issue then as many of us travelled back to Universities on Sundays after a weekend at home and the trains seemed more “normal” than they are now. There were always different timetables on a Saturday and Sunday though and you read them on a typed board on a wall in the station. The weekends were in red font!
