What meals does your after school club serve?

Just trying to get a sense of what other clubs serve up as ours appears to have downhill recently. I know they can’t do particularly exciting things when there are 30+ children to feed, but ours has become really basic, and so heavily cheese based, and my dairy free child (intolerance when younger) seems to be existing on jam sandwiches every day…

My after school club doesn't serve meals - they have a snack and then have a meal when they get home!

Toast or crumpets or similar. Plus fruit or cereal bars. Ours finishes at 5:30. No proper meals.

Beans and waffles
Pizza slices (think these are cold)
Cheese or ham wraps
Smiley potatoes and chicken nuggets
Basically brown oven food

We used to have something like this, and it’s what they’ve advertised, but it’s getting even less. Maybe it’s the lack of dairy free choice that’s annoying me. I don’t like that all the other kids get a hot sort of meal and DC gets to eat yet another jam sandwiches.

Ours is very much a snack - normally toast or a cheese wrap. It's not supposed to replace dinner as far as I can tell, just to stop the kids becoming too hangry.

fanaticalfairy · 17/12/2024 18:18

Plain crackers and fruit basically.

Girasoli · 17/12/2024 18:22

Just asked DC - sausage roll, ham sandwiches, chicken sandwiches. (I'm sure there are veggie options too)
Veg sticks or fruit to go with it.

I'm happy with it. DS1 (8) needs a proper dinner after, but sometimes DS2 (4) just wants a snack.

My ds hates the after school clubs food but they dont let them take their own snacks, even fruit, I've asked.

It's not the menu so much that's the issue it's the poor quality food and the odd ingredients they use, as well as only having a microwave to cook.

Example mon-fri menu:
Fruit and yoghurt
Nachos with cheese.
Cous cous and veg
Crumpets
Popcorn

Ours doesn’t offer any meals or snacks .

Theres loads of diary free meals they could offer or at least slightly adapt . My son had multiple allergies.

If your child has a non IgE allergy to dairy have you looked into doing the milk ladder (sorry if you’re already aware and have attempted in the past) x
