Any dentists? Child broken front tooth!

Hi just messaging on the off chance a dentist might see this or someone who has experienced the same thing.
My just turned 9 year old broke her front tooth over the weekend. There was a tiny bit of exposed nerve (I think it was nerve or pulp it was a dot of pink). The emergency dentist said she would need to be referred asap for a root canal at the hospital. So I went to my regular dentist the following day asking to be referred and he said if it's isn't infected it won't need a root canal. He said to come back on Friday for another X ray and if it's not infected they won't refer her. I'm really worried that if she doesn't have the root canal and the tooth does and needs to be extracted it would cause more complications.
Does anyone know what the best course of action would be here?

This exact same thing happened to my son when he was 8. Front tooth basically sliced off by a wayward hockey stick. The nhs dentist wanted to extract and said he could "wear a denture"...Obviously I sought a second opinion! The second dentist said that as the root hadn't fully closed, we couldn't do a root canal. So we had years of composite filler which looked exactly like a real tooth, until the root was suitable to be filled. I think he was about 11 or 12 by then. It was a long stressful road, but we got there in the end.

Dentist here!!
I assume a dressing has been placed over the exposed pulp?
At her age, there is a chance she wont need a root canal. The root isn’t fully developed yet. It’s a watch and wait situation. She’s better off, giving the tooth a chance to recover

Thankyou so much for your replies, feeling very anxious so appreciate them. Yes they have put a temporary filling / dressing on. The dentist on Friday has said if there is no infection on x-ray he will do a composite filler that looks better than what's on at the moment.
Thanks littlemissprosseco it's good to have another professional opinion.
Skippy67 so did your son have a root canal done when he was 11/12?

DD had this at a similar age, except she broke both the front two teeth and the dentist said to wait till the roots were fully developed and see how it went. She had the composite filler for years, it lasted very well but unfortunately did end up with an abscess in one tooth at one point, and had to have the root canal after that. She's never had it done on the other one, it's now about 7 years since it happened. Make sure she's really careful about cleaning her teeth and keep an eye out for any sign of infection.

I can't remember exactly how old he was, but it was years after he broke his tooth. We had to wait for the root to fully close.
