Calling eBay experts! Do I need to accept a return?

Would appreciate any advice. I'm not new to eBay but this is the first time I've really had an issue

Sold something last week for £75. It retails for £299. Used once by me and it's in perfect working order. I checked it prior to packaging up - no problems

Buyer has received today and messages to say she wants to return it as it's not working properly - but I know this isn't the case and shes more than likely changed her mind

Anyway, can I refuse this return? I suspect the answer is a resounding NO and that's fine, I'll suck it up and accept it but I know the real reason for return is probably buyers regret tbh

I have no returns checked on all my listings. Do you do that? Can she confirm it's not working?

SeasonsGreetingsBatFace · 16/12/2024 19:41

@AnOldCynic sadly I don't think the 'no returns' thing carries any weight at all IF the buyer says the item is not as described / not working

It's so irritating when I know it does work

If they report it to eBay as INAD you will be forced to do the return anyway. They side with buyers even if you state no returns.

Its less likely buyers regret and more likely they've switched it with a non working one.

SeasonsGreetingsBatFace · 16/12/2024 19:47

@Antsinmypantsneedtodance oh don't say that! I'd be even more annoyed than I am now. I'm just not sure how it can go from working to not working in the space of 24 hours

You'll have to accept it. You've no way to prove it was working and they can hardly tell people they can't get a refund for broken items.

If it's a popular item list it collection only and tell them to bring cash and they can inspect and demo it working before they pay.

When you sell on ebay you are given the option to allow returns or not. Can you go back to your listing and see which option you chose.

As someone else said - it’s a common scam to buy a working item and then return a different broken one. So be very wary of accepting the return if you are certain that the item worked when you sent it and that it was well packaged and unlikely to break in transit.

I've had eBay step in on a couple of occasions when a buyer has raised a dispute and they are in the wrong. And they have refunded the buyer but not taken any money off me.

Try and get as much evidence from them that it isn't working and then call eBay. It's a bugger to find the phone number but it is there and they've always been really helpful. All is not lost.
