Take it to the police

DomingoinLittleOakley · 16/12/2024 18:29

What did their response letter say - did they explain why your complaint has not been upheld and about what to do if you are unhappy with their response?

Some of their agreements are unregulated and some are regulated.

If it's a regulated agreement, they should have told you that you can complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service. If they haven't told you that, I suspect it's one of their unregulated agreements (or I suppose there's a possibility they've got it wrong).

Did you share the OTP code with anyone? Think back to the week it happened and any messages or emails you received.

I assumed OP meant 'something'

Going to the police was my next move

What was your “complaint”?

did you complain or report fraud?

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 16/12/2024 20:19

Let me get this straight. Someone put through £600 in Asda through Klana using your detail. You know nothing about this and told Klana that. They then said tough and asked for the money. Is that all correct?

Police fraud straight away. You should have done that first but go to them now.

welfate21 · 16/12/2024 20:19

I had read an earlier post where someone had said about a male contacting her it was more or less the same chat i had he said was from Klarna fraud department and said he was sending a one time code so that he could stop it. I am normally really careful but had not long lost my father and concentration wasn't as sharp as normal I am now £600 out of pocket. They didnt give an explanation just said they had investigated thoroughly and my complaint was not upheld. I told them about the credit card i received but didn't request or use but didnt make any difference also asked which Asda was used and either email or address of recipient but they did not provide this

Reported a fraud and also complained that someone could get my details through a supposedly secure site

OP posts:
welfate21 · 16/12/2024 20:24

Yes thats absolutely correct they are recovering the money from my bank account on 01 January 25

Somebody ordered £600 worth of items to your house in your name? And you accepted the items but you claim it wasn’t you?

If the items were delivered to your house then you should return them, or should have refused them. You can’t keep the items AND claim it wasn’t fraud.

Not what they said 🙄

Then what actually happened because I don’t follow at all.

edit: ahh I assume credit card sent to home but Asda order not

Bathsarejustpeoplesoup · 16/12/2024 20:31

So you gave them the OTP code? Sorry but that's on you. It's brutal and scammers are the scum of the earth but the message containing the code literally says on it do not give it to anyone.

sinckersnack · 16/12/2024 20:41

Can one single code be used for three different transactions?
I am sorry OP scammers are bastards - it's horrible

Garlicwest · 16/12/2024 20:53

I think I get it ...

  1. Mr Fraud places three orders with Asda on OP's Klarna account.
  2. Klarna requires verification.
  3. To get the code, Mr Fraud phones the OP saying he's from Klarna.
  4. He tells her there's suspicious activity on her account, and he can stop it by sending a code number..
  5. Somehow persuades her to read the code out to him - or punch it into the app, but I can't see that happening even if she was stressed?
  6. Message duly arrives from Klarna:
Your 6-digit code is: 123456 Use this code to complete the verification process in the app or website. Do not share this code. Klarna representatives will never reach out to you to verify this code

Ignoring the part that says "Klarna representatives will never reach out to you to verify this code" because she's stressed and can't concentrate, OP gives him the code.

Mr Fraud completes his purchase on her account, having the stuff delivered to him.

@welfate21 I hope you have reported it to the police, as they should be able to get the delivery address off Klarna.

sinckersnack · 16/12/2024 20:58

How did Mr Fraud know your phone number AND your Klarna account number? Is there any way it's someone you know? I don't use Klarna but with some cards they also ask for your email - especially if you are changing delivery address.
Can ASDA give you the delivery address? Will it be on your order summary?

DomingoinLittleOakley · 16/12/2024 21:12

Did they email you at the time with details of the store and what was purchased? Their 'Fraud Protection Promise' indicates that is what should happen.

I would contact your bank straight away OP and explain and see if they can help you.

You're not actually out of pocket yet as they haven't taken the payment - talk to your bank now to see if they can stop it happening, report to Action Fraud, get a crime number and go back to Klarna and tell them you want them to investigate further. Keep on at them.
