Driving times and Activities in Cornwall?

How accurate are the driving times on Google Maps for Cornwall? We are going in late July so would this change the driving times that are on there at the moment?

I've booked accommodation just outside Saltash/Plymouth and I'm wondering whether the 1h 7m to Newquay and the 50 mins to the Eden Project (as claimed on Google maps) for day trips are going to be realistic or not? I've never been to that part of the country so IDK what the roads are like but around here (Peak District) the journey times are... optimistic sometimes.

I'm also interested in recommendations of things to do within fair driving distance of Saltash for two tinies (age 3 and 5)! Thanks!

To get to Polzeath from Saltash in the summer will be about a 2 hour car trip with a lot of traffic.
Wow.
I think I'm still not quite comprehending just how busy it gets down there. I get a bit anxious about busy places, queueing, parking trouble etc so maybe it's best to just stay more local with the activities on the list.

@Cornwall2025

"so maybe it's best to just stay more local with the activities on the list."

Especially when where you are staying has so many wonderful things to see and do and with less crowds.

It seems nuts to spend 2 hours traveling from somewhere really nice just to go to somewhere really busy and crowded!

I strongly recommend a walk out to St Michael's Chapel on Rame Head for the views.

Polzeath is not lovely, least of all at the height of the season!

Seaton beach, on the south coast, is a much better bet, especially with smaller DCs

I agree Seaton is a lovely beach but it's like 65 miles away from Saltash which would take forever in the summer.

Try Tregantle beach which is 14 miles or 30 / 40 minutes (in the summer) away from Saltash

Seaton beach on the South coast is near Looe. About 20 minutes drive from Saltash.

Ah there are two Seatons and two Seaton Beaches.

One is PL11 3JS
The other is EX12 2GB

Either way I wouldn't be bothered to drive two hours to Polzeath!
