What are the best (cheap) ways to stay warm at home?

Fed up of feeling freezing whenever not in bed with 3 duvets, warm clothes and warm DH. Really want to be warm but can’t afford heaters.

Slippers with REALLY thick foam soles. Mine are about 4cm thick. They're cheap faux sheepskin mules, but they're warmer than my much more expensive sheepskin boots that I had, due to the thickness of the sole.

Layers!! I know that PP have said this but a thin camisole layer that MUST be tucked in. And two layers on your arms... so either a long sleeved shirt with a jumper over, OR a long-sleeved poloneck with jumper over. Also a thin gilet. And maybe a big hoodie or simmering over the top.

Wool wherever possible if you can tolerate it.

Something at your neck whether it be a polo neck, buttoned up collar, or thin scarf or snood.

No gaps between your socks and trousers.

Hot drinks, even if only hot water (you get used to it!).

Going out for a brisk walk actually really warms you up. Vigorous housework also warms you up... scrubbing the bathroom and vacuuming are my go-tos.

But also keep the fabric of your environment as warm and well-aired as you can, by whatever means you can afford.

i have thermal under garments / thin pj's underneath normal clothes , then wool or insulated type slippers, then a dressing gown on top and if needed a beanie hat, obviously i keep the temp around 18, but these make me feel warmer

A long (3/4 length) padded gilet (down is lightweight and very warm, wool is also very warm, but harder to find, and obviously neither are any good if you are a vegan) it's like wearing a sleeping bag, mine has a hood, with a beanie hat under my hood it's very warm!
Hat (wool with fleece lining will be the warmest), sheep skin or wool felt slippers, neck warmer, thick socks, and fingerless gloves.
Natural fibres will always be warmer than man-made.

Unless you're in the Highlands, it's not been cold yet. Today it's around 11C where I am.

@NicolaCasanova I don't know your circumstances but if you can't afford any heating at all, have you looked into any extra financial help? Or advice on budgeting?

It's bad to keep your home cold as it will get damp over the winter when it's really cold.

Feeling cold can be a symptom of thyroid issues. Just mentioning it in case it might be relevant.
