On his bike.

So my DH (early 60s) likes to go out on his bike a couple of times a week for exercise and mental health. He's got no 'special' biking clothes and just wears long sleeve t shirt and hoody and tracky bottoms. He's a big lad and gets hot sweaty and then cold and damp. I'd like to get him some clothes to wear when he's on his bike but ....not the full on tight lycra set up. What can i get that will keep him warm but not overheat etc. God I sound so lame. I know nothing about cycling attire. budget around £100

Cycling clothes are usually made out of Lycra. They absorb the sweat and are comfortable to wear. Why do do you not want him to wear it.

If he gets sweaty Lycra will be the best.

You could get him some mountain bike clothes if he doesn't like the idea of road kit. My DH is also quite big and won't wear tight stuff but he has MTB tops and trousers which are made of technical fabrics so wick sweat away well but are looser. Fat Lad at the Back is a good brand for larger people, though it's not cheap unfortunately.

Get some mountain bike clothing if he definitely doesn't want it too tight, but when you are exercising it is most comfortable to wear exercise clothes, which are made of Lycra or equivalent.

People are so stupid about Lycra on cyclists. It doesn't mean you 'think you're in the Tour de France'. It's just comfortable and appropriate when you're going hard enough to get sweaty. Would you go swimming in a cotton t-shirt because people said swimming costumes were stupid and try hard and for people who thought they were Michael Phelps?

Oh yeah it definitely doesn't have to be cycling specific. One of my cycling tops is really a running top and I wear running leggings sometimes too.

But definitely exercise clothes! Which will be a stretchy sweat wicking fabric that looks like Lycra even if it isn't Lycra.

Btw for road cycling he will also be way more comfortable (and go a bit faster) if the clothes are tight fitting, but I understand not everyone is confident to wear tight clothing.

Oh, nothing against lycra, didnt mean to suggest that. I should have said he is more of an off road biker and not a racer. Thanks for all the suggestions...really helpful thank you.
