Moving house mistake - need talking down

We are moving house Monday exchanged yesterday and I haven't stopped crying since still crying now
We are relocating to be closer to family (have none where we are but have made friends). I'm pregnant and have DS 4.

What's hurting me the most is we are moving my DS school , he's in a wonderful school now . Brand new only year group in 30 second walk from the house. The head teacher cried when we said he was leaving . I'm beyond devastated and wondering if this all a big mistake.

My DS is genuinely a lovely little boy , and I worry how he will settle and make friends . Not sure what i want just some reassurance I'm not making the biggest mistake ever.

If he's a lovely little boy, at 4 he'll make new friends easily.

you're pregnant, blame your hormones, dry your tears & look forward to your lovely new home, your DS having family around. His (equally) lovely new school & what ever other benefits you'll gain by moving!

It’s always stressful moving house and worrying about your children and them feeling hurt is natural. It never ends, my DS GF has just ended their six year relationship today. Completely out of the blue, no indication. She was joking how she was going to be buying him Christmas pyjamas 2 weeks ago.

A sweet natured friendly boy of four will make nice new friends!
At 14 it would be cause for concern, not 4.

Wise move to be nearer family!
Your boy will be fine - as will you.

Moving is always stressful.

You aren’t ripping his life apart- he still has you - His mum is the constant in his life- Hopefully the area you are moving to is similar to the one you are in now .

Thank you for all the support!
We are moving from a town with not much going on for when he's older , to a lovely area in South Liverpool. I know it will be better for when he's older secondary, unis , more to do etc. And obviously he'll be closer to family , he adores my brothers sister and mum.

We are lucky that I managed to get him into a primary school a minutes walk away - it was good timing as someone is leaving to move out of area over Christmas as we move in.

I've worked in schools OP and 4 year olds make friends very easily. He will settle in no time honestly. Please don't worry.

We were in the same position as you 4 years ago. We moved house (and schools, but my son was 6) and left the most amazing little school, and had to chose his new one online as there were no visits during covid.

It was all fine and my son is happily settled, with a lovely group of friends, and in year 5. We love being closer to family and it was the right decision. There are always difficult bits even when you've made the right decision, but I'm sure your son will be fine. X

This all makes me feel so much better . His school is wonderful and special he's the only year group in which I think is making it harder I've cried all day !

Change is hard, but he will be absolutely fine. We moved when my ds was 4 (and older one was 9, so more established). He wasn’t in school yet, but it meant that in the span of 6 months, he changed preschool to a new preschool then to a holiday club for summer and then started school. He wasn’t completely fine. My older one who was in Y4 had a whole set of new best friends in about 2 weeks. It was like we had lived here forever. It sounds like a great move for you and you’ve actually timed it all very well.
