Those wee silica sachets

You know the ones you get inside some purchases, they're to absorb any moisture? I collected them over the year and put them on my windowsills once it got colder and damper. They've worked well but some have gone hard. Is there a home remedy I could use to mimic them?

Of course, top notch windows and the like would help but alas I cannot replace them right now. I might as well experiment in the meantime.

You can buy pots of them to collect damp. Amazon sells multipacks. They’re like damp catching something or other.

Just buy the reusable bags - look for Pingi on Amazon. I have them in the car, hallway and back windows. You microwave them to dry them out then use them over and over.

My oldest are at least 15yrs old.

The only problem with these is they are single use.

I think you can reactivate the purchase packet ones by putting them on a baking tray in the oven on a low heat.

I think also you can do it in the microwave but it takes ages because you have to do it for short bursts repeatedly so they dont cook

I can't be bothered to google it but I'm sure you can find out how to do it.

you can do it a few times before they give up.

Obviously be aware that when you're drying them out in oven/on radiator you are releasing the moisture back into your house.

Best bet is to open windows in the morning and sit your room.

I put those little packets in anywhere sealed, my jewelry box, wardrobes and drawers, in the Xmas decoration box.

Not in an oven! Don't be daft. An oven is sealed - its how it keeps the heat in.

They are really too small to do much on your windowsills. You can get much bigger versions, often refillable, for hardly any money in Home Bargains and other discount stores.

I use the sachets in my jewellery drawer - they help to stop silver tarnishing.
