Acceptable reason's for leaving a previous job

Hello mumsnet! I was wondering if anyone has some good examples explaining why you were leaving a previous job that doesn't make you look shit and un-reliable? I've done plenty of temporary roles so fair enough. A company I worked for was liquidised...again fair enough. But I can't say I left my last job because the manager was an absolute twat on a micro-managing power trip and that if I didn't walk out there or then I'd of jumped off a bridge or pushed her off one with glee! Any ideas what I can say that won't put off employers but not a total lie ill get caught in???😏

Looking for more responsibility and a challenge.

I think that you can say the job role wasn't really what you were looking for and you wanted a different role/team/culture/working environment or whatever.

Of course if your twat of a boss is like the twat of a boss I had, you don't need to say it. people go, "Ohhhhh, you worked for TWATFACE? Wow, you did well to last as long as you did...." Grin

You are looking for a new challenge / more responsibility. I left my last role for similar reasons but could never say why, My industry is practically incestuous. Everyone knows everyone so never shit on your own doorstep, it will come back to bite you!

I once had my probation failed and when interviewing for the next job I said "the job didn't suit me and I didn't suit the job so I decided it was best for me and the business to move on". It was a bit of a risk and also true - I wasn't right for the job and they knew it, and I wasn't glad to not have to do it any more.

They hired me and I've been in my new job for 10 years, promoted many times!

I never understand why they bother asking this question.

It's not like anyone's going to admit that the people were just awful and they didn't like them, or they had a massive fallout with their manager 😅

Everyone just lies and says they want a new challenge. It's standard.

NewName24 · 11/12/2024 16:15

Yup, what @yukikata said.

I do like a challenge! Just not a challenging twat of a manager😄 100% say this

MelainesLaugh · 11/12/2024 18:56
