Child benefit - all kids?

I no longer claim, so I’m not in the loop for this now, but I thought they were reducing to one or two kids only? The GOV site says all children. What happened?

Child benefit has always been for all kids, though you can't get it any more if you earn over a certain amount (I think £60K but not sure).

You can't get means tested benefits like child tax credits for more than two kids now, unless there's special circumstances. You can claim for twins if you already had a child, or triplets. And you can claim disability related benefits for a third or subsequent child, I believe.

Ah, maybe I’m getting mixed up with the benefits. I was sure something had been reduced in the last couple of years. Thanks.

There's also tax free childcare and free childcare hours for preschool aged children which I don't think is limited to the first two children but I'm less sure. Again that's got an income threshold, £100K I think. And some elements of it are limited to working parents (again, I think).

The whole system seems very complex to me and could probably do with a compete overhaul but that's what happens because payments etc get put into place to try and sort out a specific problem or issue.

You're getting it mixed up with child element of UC, child benefit gets paid separately to UC.
